For a very special escape to stunning Somerset, the Brewery Vaults provides stylish luxury for four in the gorgeous village of Freshford.

As well as offering exquisite interiors, where impressive historic features are complemented beautifully by clever contemporary design, the unique Brewery Vaults comes with a history almost as special as itself.

This former brewing hall was built back in 1821 - part of a local brewery serving no fewer than 14 pubs in Freshford. When the brewery closed in the 1890s, however, the building fell into disrepair, before later being used for a variety of purposes, including an air raid shelter for the local school!

In the 1970s, the brewery was bought by Jeremy Fry (yes - of Fry's Turkish Delight!), who converted the building into a private home and, along with his friend Lord Snowdon, ran a wheelchair factory business from the old brewing hall. Snowdon was a frequent visitor to the house, as was Princess Margaret, who tended the gardens and even left high heel impressions in the leather floor! Now, how's that for a story?

However, you're not just visiting the Brewery Vaults for its fascinating history. Here, you can look forward to a totally unique holiday in this exquisite listed home, relaxing among luxurious furnishings, enjoying gorgeous open-plan living, and making the most of this sublime setting in England's tranquil Cotswolds.

You'll enter this stunning home through the large arched doorway - the first reminder of the Brewery Vaults' former life. And as you step through, prepare to be breath-taken by the huge living space that waits inside. Natural stone walls guide your eye up to the vast, barrel-vaulted ceiling, while modern architectural touches and contemporary furniture create an ingenious blend of days gone by and up-to-date living.

To your immediate right is a dining area for four, with a sleek, glass-topped table and white chairs. The lounge area beyond, complete with cosy purple sofas, a coffee table and spectacular arc lamp, offers an inviting space to curl up in front of the television and watch your favourite DVDs together.

The modern fitted kitchen is found at the other end of the Brewery Vaults, a self-contained room featuring an electric oven, gas hob, microwave and dishwasher for simple self-catering. There's also a handy washer-dryer in here - ideal for longer stays or getting things clean after days spent walking the Cotswolds. The blue cabinets and wooden worktops bring an air of country style, while white walls and a glass splashback continue the contemporary theme. Next door, you'll find the bathroom, where the over-bath shower gives you the option of quick splashes or long soaks - sure to keep everyone happy!

The two peaceful bedrooms can each be found in their own gallery at either end of the Brewery Vaults. The spacious Master bedroom is particularly spectacular, with its king-size four-poster bed (the end of which doubles up as the living area's wall!). A twin bedroom is found at the other end of the home above the kitchen, featuring a dressing table area, ample storage, and two heavenly single beds.

With an ideal location in the centre of Freshford, be sure to explore this quintessential Cotswolds village with its Georgian architecture, historic church and popular pub. Catch the train from the station to other beautiful towns and villages on the Bradford-on-Avon line, or experience the local scenery on foot or horseback. Famous Bath is just six miles away, so a day spent marvelling the splendid cathedral, exploring the many shops, or relaxing at the Thermae Spa is easily on the cards.

Ingenious design, incredible interiors, an idyllic location and an interesting history - it's little wonder why guests adore the Brewery Vaults for that relaxing holiday with a real difference.
