The Old Signal Box Wellow

A heritage-rich, pet-friendly artist’s retreat with a relaxing sauna, beautifully secluded amongst chocolate-box countryside in a Somerset village that’s close to the iconic city of Bath.
  • Sleeps: 4
  • Bedrooms: 2
  • Bathrooms: 1.5
  • Minimum stay: 3 nights

One of Somerset’s loveliest rural villages, Wellow also forms part of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is recognised for its special architectural and historic interest.

Fittingly, it’s here that you’ll discover The Old Signal Box, which is one of the last of its kind on the former Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway – a true piece of history.

Lovingly restored with plenty of cheer, creativity, and colour, the unique retreat was once owned by Sir Peter Blake, a renowned artist who designed the cover for The Beatles’ iconic album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Oh… and did we mention that the bathroom comes with its very own sauna?

There’s a bright and beautiful kingsize bedroom to curl up in, and a second bedroom in the charming garden shepherd’s hut – perfect for guests who prefer a little more privacy, or just another cosy place to curl up with a good book.

You’ll find the scenic, sumptuous original Signal Box lounge (and former painting studio) gainfully equipped with a soft-glowing woodburning stove and stirring views of the rolling Wellow Valley. Meanwhile, the luxurious kitchen/diner is ideal for long chats over hearty home-cooked meals and a few glasses of wine.

Head to the bathroom for a sauna session, or a languorous soak among scented bubbles… the double-ended bath means you won’t even have to wait your turn! There’s a large shower cubicle, too, which is handy for freshening up in after a long and lovely country walk.
