Boasting a rich maritime heritage, a dramatic coastline, and fascinating sea-stories that travel all the way back to Viking times, Stromness is every water baby’s dream destination.

Characterised by stone houses nestled around a sheltered harbour, the picturesque Orkney town is the perfect setting for a tranquil break that feels blissfully far from the hustle and bustle of real life.

And Harbour House Stromness, which boasts its very own pier and slipway, is the perfect base from which to immerse yourselves in this fascinating part of the world.

Sleeping up to eight guests, you’ll find the luxurious home in a designated conservation area, with mesmerising sea-and-sunset views that promise to relax you almost instantly. Simply pop the kettle on, then snuggle on the sofa and gaze out of the windows in the ridiculously cosy first floor sitting room.

You’ll discover plenty of historic features throughout, including a beautiful, listed iron staircase, and a quirky boathouse that was once used to build traditional Orkney Yole boats, now transformed into an al fresco dining area and games room.

There is also a whole wealth of space for everybody to be as social or as private as they like, with a second lounge on the ground floor, and a light-filled kitchen and dining room to break bread together over a bottle (or two!) of good wine.

Bedroom-wise, you’ll have three to choose from. There’s a sea-and-street-view kingsize room on the first floor, complete with ensuite bathroom and room for a cot, and two second floor rooms.  One of these is a cosy double with bunk beds and street views, and the other a sumptuous kingsize with sea views.
