Gone are the days of shimmying up garden trees (ruining our clothes in the process!) to reach the humble, home-made havens we loved as carefree kids.
While the idea of living in a treehouse still feels as fun and freeing as it did back then, when you choose one for a holiday you might find it’s had something of an upgrade. Think sumptuous hot tubs, ‘proper’ flushing loos, and scenic decking that makes you feel at one with nature.
In fact, spending quality time amongst the whispering leaves can be infused with so much luxury, that you may never want to come back down to Earth!
Many luxury treehouses are completely bespoke, such as the adults-only haven crafted by BBC2’s former ‘wood mentor’ and a RIBA award-winner. Decked in a striking camouflage design and nestled in rural Dorset, delights include a wood-fired pizza oven and a comfy day bed in prime viewing-position.
Meanwhile, Scandi-inspired design is the order of the day in the historic Cornish village of Gweek, where you’ll find dog-friendly tree-treats that come with a Dutch loveseat hot tub and a private garden.
Then there’s the Belfast Telegraph-featured whirlpool bathtubs you’ll find at the soaring, glass-fronted lodges set by the pristine golden sands of Benone Strand – a filming location for Game of Thrones, no less!
