New to Host Unusual: Wonderful Woodland Retreats

10 May 2018

If you go down to the woods today…you’ll find a few suggestions of simply perfect shaded retreats  in enviably laid-back settings, ideal for a green holiday away from the rat race. From a hand-crafted cabin with a canvas roof in Sussex, to a range of unique abodes including a brand new hobbit house in Suffolk, and some rather luxuriously finished treehouses and huts set in a beautiful Cotswolds estate, your reconnection with nature starts here!

Coppicer’s Cabin

Coppicer’s Cabin is no ordinary outdoor hideaway. This blissfully private and seriously stylish canvas-roofed cabin comes fully equipped with everything you need to enjoy a restful stay, all surrounded by acres of ancient woodland set high above the banks of the River Rother. Lovingly hand-built, and inspired by the site’s real-life coppicer Fred, this cute cabin sleeps up to six people, with pets welcome too – making it a great choice for a full family outing! A true hidden sanctuary coupled with keen sense of adventure, here cosy luxury is the order of the day; plenty of soft textiles, downy duvets and huge pillows throughout make it feel instantly homely, along with the French cylindrical wood burner. Outdoor activities onsite include zip lining, rope swings and tennis so little (and big) kids are sure to love it!

West Stow Pods

West Stow Pods is a family-run glamping site, about four miles from bustling Bury St Edmunds. You’ll discover a range of fantastic glamping pods and unique abodes here, each one perfectly situated in private woodland for a peaceful escape to nature. With heating, lighting and electricity in each one, as well as TVs, DVD players and even hot showers, you’re invited to make the very most of this relaxing location without leaving any modern comforts behind. Pod Hollow is just one of those fantastic abodes, and brand new for this year, it comes with a very Tolkien-esque twist! Set within the side of a grassy knoll in its own woodland clearing, this charming dwelling provides a perfect home-from-home for up to five keen adventurers. It won’t be Mr Baggins waiting to greet you behind that circular front door, but a wonderfully welcoming, fully equipped hobbit home – complete with two bedrooms, a cosy sitting room, a kitchen and a shower room!

The Fish Treehouses and Huts

Our final woodland adventure (above and main picture) sees us head to the Cotswolds and the grounds of The Fish Hotel – a country hotel with a twist, located on the 400-acre Farncombe Estate. Here, three fabulous treehouses offer a chance to relive that childhood excitement of sleeping among the trees, without forgoing any adult perks! Set upon stilts in its own private woodland setting, each treehouse blends modern design with natural materials for a totally cool rustic adventure. Outside, a large decking area wrapped around a towering oak tree provides the perfect spot to relax, dine and enjoy life among the trees, while inside, a real treat awaits. If you’re searching for something a little more intimate – perhaps a romantic retreat with a difference – take a look at The Fish Huts. Blending country charm with every added luxury you could imagine, including wood burning stoves and TV/DVD players, these huts offer the very best of both worlds (with a brand new selection of Hideaway Hut suites due to open in early July!) So which will you choose?
