New to Host Unusual: Unique design-led holidays from Beachspoke

31 October 2017

Purveyors of the unique design stay, Beachspoke properties are so much more than your standard holiday home. Each has its own distinctive style, with a sense of character that provides a refreshing antidote to the standard hotel or holiday let experience. With locations as diverse as Devon, Cornwall and the Cotswolds, here we are proud to introduce properties that are perfect for a romantic escape, a friend-filled holiday or a family break with a design-led twist.

Little Cottage

Little by name but certainly not by nature, this grand modernist beach house is enviably positioned with direct access to the popular Cornish beach of Praa Sands. Once a derelict building, it has been completely transformed by architect Alex Michaelis into a breathtaking coastal retreat for up to eleven guests. Its stylish cutting-edge design and clean, white minimalist lines simply exude cool. The sociable living area is the ultimate place to relax and recline on comfy sofas and bean bags, and the three spectacular bedrooms all come with direct sea views – pure beachfront perfection.

Stable Cottage

Welcome to the scenic rolling hills of the Cotswolds – and what better base for exploring this glorious region than this expertly converted stable and unique cottage? Step through the original stable door into this rural hideaway for two and discover a spacious retreat, complete with high ceilings, timber beams, whitewashed walls and plenty of eclectic and charming features. Relax and get a taste of country life as the wood burner crackles away, and enjoy a fire pit or BBQ in your own private stable courtyard – the ideal spot to unwind in after a day of sightseeing.

Moon Shadow

If you’re anything like us, you’ll want to step into your accommodation and be wowed by its uniqueness. Moon Shadow is one of those places; a former fisherman’s quarters transformed with a clever and artistic fusion of industrial and ocean-inspired design.  Bold and distinctive, this wonderfully styled cottage in the heart of bustling St Ives is finished to an excellent standard, including a gorgeous Chesterfield sofa and underfloor heating. Arranged over two floors, the bedroom nestles under the property’s charming rafters on the upper floor whilst its open-plan living room and kitchen are downstairs to relax and entertain in.

Harbour Moon

This hip hideaway and dog-friendly bolthole couldn’t have a more relevant setting than in the charming Cornish village of Mousehole, where in less than five minutes you’ll find lovely delis and superb restaurants. Harbour Moon is bright, vibrant and rich in detail, its piece de resistance being the beautiful bedroom with rustic stone walls. The partial glass-floor, high-vaulted white wooden ceiling and mesh netting add to its coastal character, not to mention the plush king-size bed with harbour-style headboard, from where you can see the boats bobbing past the harbour wall – a true romantic seaside retreat.

The Barn

Over to the quaint Devon village of Cotleigh now and an unassuming stone barn that has been completely renovated to magnificent effect. You will be instantly struck by the charming thatched roof of The Barn, which looks every bit the quintessential English country house. Designed for two, from each of the upper rooms of the accommodation you can appreciate the rolling Blackdown Hills, the foothills of which are located within walking distance. Perhaps enjoy a long soak in the romantic, vintage silver roll-top bath tub – another perfect spot from where you can take in those glorious countryside views.
