New to Host Unusual: A contemporary barn, rooftop rockets and a Yorkshire shepherd’s hut

10 January 2018

With the new year comes promises of fresh adventures and more exciting places to explore for the twelve months ahead, so it’s our mission to inspire you with some ideas of incredible places to stay in some of the best spots on the map. Starting in Suffolk, we have an innovative converted historic barn, now achingly stylish with a Scandi-esque vibe, near popular Aldeburgh. Over in Bristol, an urban rooftop oasis beckons, with a series of modern retro-inspired Airstream-style caravans overlooking the city skyline. Lastly, we retreat to the Yorkshire Dales and  jump in the hot tub at this private shepherd’s hut overlooking glorious rolling hills. Time to get planning!

Five Acre Barn

Take a 19th century barn in the popular Aldeburgh area of Suffolk, close to unspoilt beaches such as Covehithe, add two enthusiastic and avid gardener owners with a sense of style and dreams of an exciting architectural project and you have Five Acre Barn, an refreshing antidote to the traditional bed and breakfast model. For at Five Acre Barn the emphasis is on staying in contemporary and dramatic accommodation, enjoying the expansive gardens, and appreciating the cedar-clad architecture, clever restoration and Scandi-style design throughout. You have the option of booking an individual room, or coming with a group and occupying all five bedrooms, each with their own individual terrace and en-suite bathroom. So whether it’s a couples adventure or family celebration, make this your Barnutopia!

Brooks Rooftop Rockets

To the buzzy city of Bristol now, a magnet for musicians and artists and we have a truly unique urban escape for you. Set on the rooftop of the luxurious Brooks Guesthouse you will find a series of four retro Airstream-style caravans that are British made, yet with a distinct nod to the vintage splendour of the ultimate American icon. Looking out over Bristol’s impressive cityscape, these ‘Rooftop Rockets’ are a feast for the eyes; ranging between 16ft and 20ft, they climb to similar heights of contemporary luxury inside, with Designer’s Guild curtains and cushions, pocket-sprung mattresses, goose down duvets, LED lighting, Hans Grohe eco-showers and flat screen TVs ensuring you’ll not want to leave in a hurry. Each guest will also enjoy a lavish breakfast served in the guest house – perfect to set you up for a day exploring this vibrant city.

The Shepherd’s Retreat

Escape to the stunning countryside of the Yorkshire Dales now and a rural shepherd’s hut, perfectly positioned to overlook the rolling hills that instantly greet you through the French doors. This delightful hut also comes with its very own private hot tub, in a secluded patio area that also has a barbecue – prepare your very own al fresco romantic meal, then head straight into the hot tub with a cold glass of champagne – what could be more appealing?  The interior of the hut is beautifully in tune with its natural surroundings, featuring green and cream tones, sage cabinets and an authentic country feel, complemented by luxurious touches such as underfloor heating, the all-important wood-burning stove and even a completely separate bedroom – a rare find in a shepherd’s hut!
