Five Acre Barn
England / Aldringham, Suffolk
Shake off any preconceptions of old-fashioned holiday rentals - at Five Acre Barn, you'll enjoy modern accommodation, peaceful surroundings and exceptional hosting just a mile from Suffolk's sensational coast.
Five Acre Barn is found in the small village of Aldringham, just one mile from Thorpeness and two miles from Aldeburgh. Centred around a 19th century barn, this gorgeous property has undergone an extensive transformation, bringing this fantastic building right into the 21st century. With five luxurious guest suites on offer, each promises stylish contemporary furnishings, garden views and every comfort you could imagine for a truly indulgent stay!
What's more, with five acres of wonderful gardens and woodland surrounding you, you'll feel at peace the moment you arrive. Enjoy the relaxing sounds of the countryside, from the call of the pheasant to the boom of the Bittern, or the gentle breeze rustling through the maturing gardens.
Once inside, your friendly hosts will show you to your wonderful bedroom in the cedar-clad extension. With soaring ceilings (reaching a lofty six metres at the highest point!), each room has been designed for dramatic impact, while carefully crafted interiors make for sophisticated serenity. And whether you're visiting alone, as part of a couple or even hiring all five rooms for an unforgettable group stay, you can look forward to stylish surroundings, stunning views and access to a private decking area overlooking the gardens.
Rooms 1, 2, 3 and 4 all share the same layout, with a light-filled mezzanine sleeping area and living space below. Snuggle down in perfect comfort in your super cosy king-size bed and spot as many constellations as you can through the huge roof light above, before drifting off for the sweetest of dreams.
Downstairs is your bright, Scandi-style sitting room, with chic Ercol armchairs and a television. Whether you're whiling away the hours lost in the pages of a good read, catching up with your favourite programme, or simply looking out the window to spot dragonflies, Pheasant or Muntjac deer if you're lucky, there's no better place to unwind and feel the weight of the world lift from your shoulders. You'll also find your bathroom down here; Rooms 1 and 2 offer convenient wet room-style showers, while Rooms 3 and 4 come complete with lavish bathtubs for total relaxation!
Room 5 - the Garden Room - offers a more accessible option for guests, as well as a little more space for groups of up to three. Spread across one storey, this spectacular sanctuary offers sweeping views across the garden - best enjoyed from the comfort of your sofa. The luxurious bathroom features an accessible shower, and, in addition to a king-size bed, you'll find an extra single bed, courtesy of the expanding ottoman!
Every room features extra splashes of luxury to leave you feeling truly spoiled, from 100% cotton sheets to luscious Bramley products in the bathrooms. And beyond your room, you're invited to enjoy the comfort of the Barn, whether you're settling back to read the papers, preparing a refreshing drink or warming your toes by the fire. It's also where you might take your morning breakfast - comprising locally sourced delights ranging from a full English, to eggs benedict, to waffles, even to homemade granola...delicious!
There's more to explore beyond Five Acre Barn too, with unspoilt beaches, picturesque villages and breath-taking scenery all in walking distance. Your hosts are happy to point you towards the best places to sample sumptuous Suffolk produce, spot native wildlife or enjoy bracing walks or bike rides through the countryside. Classical music lovers will be in their element at nearby Snape Maltings, while the pier and pubs of Southwold are just 15 miles away. Visits to enigmatic Dunwich Heath and peaceful Walberswick also come highly recommended.
So whether you're exploring the stunning countryside, relaxing at the seaside or soaking up every ounce of contemporary luxury at Five Acre Barn, one thing's for sure - holidays don't come more stylish than this.
