The beginning of winter can herald a strong sense of déjà vu. Days get shorter, shops heave with seasonal goodies, and people start asking where you’ll be spending Christmas.
While it’s easy to slip into the same old routines, a change can be just what Santa ordered. And how better to shake things up a little, than by saying something like: “We’re spending Christmas at the beach,” or “We’ll be toasting the new year in a luxury treehouse!”?
So with that said, we’re going all out this year! Not only have we rounded up the most unique places to stay, we’ve also broken them down into categories so it’s easier for you to find your favourite. Part One is a celebration of coast and countryside, while Part Two will focus on architect-designed retreats, cool conversions, farms and estates.
Better still, each retreat you’ll discover here has availability over the festive period (for now, at least). So all you’ve got to do is book, pack… then enjoy the most wonderful time of the year in unusual style!

Beach and Coastal Retreats with Festive Availability
Raucous summer beach holidays are all well and good. But once the tourists have packed up and gone home, there’s something gloriously life-affirming about taking a windswept stroll along the sand.
And let’s face it… after all those festive treats, who couldn’t do with a long, bracing walk (or for the truly brave, an invigorating sea-dip?) to re-set the system?
