Waitomo, with its sleepy village and captivating glow worm caves, is a magical location on New Zealand’s North Island, one that time seems barely to have touched.

It’s the perfect setting for Woodlyn Park Hill Hole, a lovingly constructed, family-friendly storybook ‘hotel’ (so called because its interiors are beautifully scaled to ‘normal’ size, so no bending or stretching is necessary, even for the tallest of fairy-tale creatures!)

Built into a hill, on top of which you’ll discover friendly grazing animals, you’ll feel irresistibly cosy from the moment you step inside. With its round windows, soft lighting, and rustic furnishings, it’s as though the space was purpose-built for supreme relaxation.

Ideal for travelling families, there are two self-contained units to choose from. Each features a queen-sized suite, a second bedroom with four single beds, a living area, and a well-equipped kitchenette (though you may prefer sizzling sunset suppers on the barbie instead). There’s also a family-sized bathroom for freshening up in, and you’ll find a friendly café right around the corner.
