Warksburn Old Church lounge area
A globally-unique and ultra-luxurious Net Zero conversion of a 19th century church, in beautiful rural Northumberland close to Hadrian’s Wall and Kielder Water.
  • Sleeps: 6
  • Bedrooms: 3
  • Minimum stay: 3 nights

The first of its kind in the world, Warksburn Old Church is a Net Zero church conversion which complies with the ultra-demanding Passivhaus standard for energy efficiency.

This historic building is now so efficient that it generates more energy than it uses, making it a particularly ideal escape for eco-conscious travellers who want to relax among beauty and luxury. Or for those considering transforming their own homes, Warksburn Old Church enables guests to experience for themselves how low energy and high-end luxury can be combined to create a stunning home.

Originally constructed in 1875, the church has been expertly renovated to become a sumptuous three-bedroom retreat that sleeps up to six guests in divine comfort, close to Hadrian’s Wall in rural Northumberland.

Historic features, including exquisite stained-glass windows and soaring timber roof trusses, sit proudly alongside bespoke furniture, statement lighting, opulent en-suite bathrooms, and a craftsman-fitted kitchen. Meanwhile, curated local artwork and ceramics blend with well-chosen antiques, for a contemporary feel that also evokes a soothing sense of times past.

Congregate in the striking, open-plan living space, where the original church roof provides an impressive 10 metres of head room. Here you’ll find warm bamboo flooring, plush sofas, and state-of-the-art entertainment that includes a 55” ultra-high definition TV and Dolby Atmos soundbar (with no neighbours, feel free to turn up the volume!)

There’s also a bespoke dining table to break bread around, as multi-coloured light floods in through original windows crafted by the Victorian stained-glass master, Charles Eamer Kempe.

Each superking bedroom also boasts a porcelain-tiled en-suite in each room’s distinctive colour palette – so all you have to do is choose your favourite shades. Two first-floor bedrooms are decorated in blue-and-gold and green-and-burnt-orange, while the ground-floor bedroom is resplendent in pale blue and salmon pink.
