Servants’ Quarters
Step back in time to life below stairs in Torrisdale Castle’s Servants’ Quarters. As the Castle itself dates back to 1815, these downstairs rooms used to be storerooms, kitchens and communal rooms for staff serving the family above. Today, they’ve been converted into a gorgeous apartment of extremely generous proportions (1,800 ft2 to be precise!), creating a superb holiday home for up to six guests.
With a private entrance and views towards the sea and the Isle of Arran, the Servants’ Quarters offers a truly idyllic stay for a group or family. The Master bedroom features a heavenly king-size bed, as well an en-suite bathroom with a luxurious roll-top bath, while the two twin bedrooms share the use of a shower room (which was formerly the gun room!). Relax in the large, vibrant living room, and enjoy home-cooked treats in the open-plan kitchen and dining room. There’s even a handy utility room in the old wine cellar.
Guests to the Servants’ Quarters also have exclusive use of the Riverside Spa – an eco-friendly spa on the banks of the river! Let off some steam in the barrel sauna before relaxing back in the wood-fired hot tub, Champagne in hand. Oh, and don’t forget the Servants’ Quarters’ final surprise – a ‘Secret Room’ which, once found, won’t leave you disappointed!

More information
You’ll find cosy cottage charm in spades at the Garden Cottage – a secluded, hillside bolthole for two. Overlooking the former walled garden, it makes a perfect romantic hideaway. Curl up together in front of the wood-burning stove in the comfy living room, where timber-clad walls and a wooden table and chairs add real rustic charm.
The separate kitchen has everything you could possibly need to self-cater during your stay. In the large bedroom, you’ll find a sumptuous king-size bed for sweet dreaming, while the bathroom comes with a shower and a bath. Outside, you can take in those sensational views from your outdoor furniture – or, even better, your private wood-fired hot tub!
South Lodge
Set right by the main gates of the estate, with stunning views towards the Kilbrannan Sound and the Isle of Arran, is South Lodge. The perfect size for a couple, this B-listed cottage oozes charm and character, as well as providing privacy for a romantic retreat. And being in hopping distance of the beach, you get a unique blend of seaside and countryside!
There are lots of lovely, quirky features to enjoy throughout South Lodge, from the fort-like porch entrance to the arched windows in the king-size bedroom. Soak up those views through the picture window in the cosy living and dining room, where light blue timber panels and nautical knickknacks create a blissful seaside feel. There’s also a wonderful secluded garden to enjoy together.
The Arch Cottage
Formerly the chauffeur’s lodgings, The Arch Cottage is perhaps the most unusual of them all! Set across three floors, this mini-fortress is located on the Castle lawns, offering an unforgettable couple’s retreat.
The peaceful bedroom, with its super king-size bed and en-suite bathroom, is found on the top floor above the arch, while the middle floor features the clean and contemporary living room with a gorgeous wood-burning stove. Finally, the kitchen and a separate cloakroom are found on the ground floor, with everything you need for a self-catered stay.
Whichever option you choose, the Torrisdale Castle Estate offers a range of activities to help you relax and get back in touch with nature. Devoted to sustainable living, the owners invite you to help their team of conservation volunteers, maybe planting a tree or two in the process! With a section of the Kintyre Way at your feet, there are plenty of opportunities for walkers, while guests are invited to bring their own canoes or dinghies to enjoy at the private beach.
One of the most unique and exciting features of the Estate is its gin distillery, which produces the award-winning Kintyre Gin. The distillery also offers guests to the Estate guided tours, a tasting bar and the opportunity to purchase bottles and also other merchandise. Gin lovers will rejoice!
Whether you’re coming to the Torrisdale Castle Estate for a memorable group holiday or a romantic getaway with your loved one, you’re in for a treat! A private beach, a spa on the riverbank, stunning accommodation and a Scottish estate to explore? Some chances really are too special to pass by.
