Built in 1828, the Isle of Man’s oldest windmill was first associated with witchcraft through proximity to the birthplace of Elizabeth Kewin, the ancient ‘Arbory Witch’ who was said to transform into a hare by nightfall.
The mill then formed part of the world’s first Museum of Magic and Witchcraft in the 1950s: a setting widely viewed as the birthplace of modern Wicca. Now transformed into an enthralling four-storey family retreat, there are plenty of delights still to be discovered at The Witches Mill!
A gleaming glass rooftop showcases soul-stirring views of the Isle’s captivating southern landscape, while thoughtfully-chosen décor and furniture will make you feel as though you’ve stepped into the pages of a fairytale. Creative touches, such as an original windmill hoist wheel re-imagined as a ceiling light panel, promise to make your eyes widen in wonder.
Sleeping up to eight guests, you’ll find two en-suite bedrooms on the ground floor: one superking and one double. Just a few steps up, the fully-equipped mezzanine kitchen diner is a perfect spot for morning coffee and hearty meals alike.
There’s plenty to charm the little ones on the first floor: in particular the enchanting bunk bedroom with its very own ‘fairy tale tree’! Rather wonderfully, there’s a children’s sitting area in the tree trunk, complete with a Bluetooth speaker for their favourite tunes or stories.
You’ll also find a handy shower room on this floor, and a double room with a feature bed expertly crafted from raw oak tree trunks and branches.
Gaze across the mesmerising island landscape from the second floor balcony, or snuggle up in the welcoming lounge, which is flooded with natural light by day. There’s plenty of comfy seating, and a Smart TV with Chromecast to keep you entertained by evening.

What the guests of The Witches Mill say
“The house is lovely. It is well located and is clean and well equipped. Broadband is very good. The views from the top of the Windmill are great.”
“We found the property very well equipped and comfortable. The owners were incredibly welcoming and helpful.”
“A beautiful place tastefully and sympathetically restored. Comfortable and cosy despite its size. Surrounded by stunning views and great for stargazing on a clear night. Very well-equipped and spotlessly clean. Be prepared for lots and lots of stairs but that is only to be expected in a building such as this. Even more enjoyable than expected, and our expectations were already high!”
