Dating all the way back to the 13th century, Dollarbeg Castle boasts the soaring turrets and intricate crenellations of fabled fairytale fortresses.

Secluded in its own grounds in rural Clackmannanshire (affectionately known as “The Wee County” for being Scotland’s smallest), you’ll feel like visiting royalty as you arrive for a memorable stay in the castle’s sumptuous five-floor apartment.

Steeped in character, you’ll marvel at the historic detail throughout. Yet there are plenty of modern-day luxuries that mean you can relax and unwind with your loved ones in contemporary comfort.

You’ll enter into the stylish hallway, where a grand staircase will lead you to the Red Room, with kingsize bed and the first of three elegant bedrooms.

Continue a few steps further, to reach the cosy living area and open plan kitchen/diner, equipped with all the appliances a chef could want, together with a tempting welcome basket and some sparkling Champagne to get your holiday off to a spectacular start!

It’s also on this floor that you’ll discover the master bedroom, with kingsize bed and butter-soft furnishings (not to mention its own en-suite shower room), and the indulgent family bathroom.

Head up the spiral staircase to access the bespoke cinema room, complete with comfy seating and surround sound for epic movie nights in, while further steps lead to the third bedroom, the ‘White Room’, with twin beds and soothing rural views.

More information

The final steps will lead you directly to the jewel in the castle’s crown… a mesmerisingly scenic roof terrace that’s perfect for sunset watching, once you’ve popped open that bottle of bubbles!

What to do once you’ve settled in? Well, you could take a turn around the private grounds, or lace up your hiking boots and explore the surrounds of Dollar, one of the four foothill villages of the rolling Ochil Hills.

The village itself is home to plenty of shops, pubs, and restaurants to while away some time in. But if you’re travelling slightly further afield, you could pay a visit to Kinross, where in the 16th century Mary, Queen of Scots famously escaped her prison at Lochleven Castle.

And of course, since you’re in Scotland, it’d be rude not to take in a few rounds of golf! The scenic, hillside Dollar Golf Club will whet your appetite for a good walk spoiled, though you’ll find over 30 courses to choose from – including St. Andrews – within just an hour’s drive.

All perfect ways for royals-in-waiting to spend their time, before coming together to survey their land (not to mention that sunset!) from the sprawling comfort of their very own castle.
