Famed architect Earl Young did much to make the Michigan town of Charlevoix the bustling resort it is today. With a strong belief that a small cottage could be as impressive as a castle, his enchanting, trademark ‘gnome homes’ and ‘mushroom houses’ are fit for modern-day storybook characters in need of some additional luxury!
Now beautifully and painstakingly reimagined by their new owner, Young’s original collection of Mushroom Houses, complete with thatched roofs and intricate timber work, are each a work of art in their own right.
Featuring one to six bedrooms in each house, choose from spacious The Thatch House, originally built in 1918 and complete with mushroom-style thatch roof, or curl up in The Chalet – an ideal romantic hideaway that was once an old carriage house belonging to Earl Young.
Meanwhile, The Cottage is light, bright and ideal for families or groups of friends, and delightful Applecore Cottage is brought straight from the pages of a fairytale – also enjoying its role as one of Charlevoix’s most loved landmarks.
Close to downtown Charlevoix and the local beach alike, you won’t need to travel far to find ways to spend your days. Yet once you’ve experienced the ethereal magic that awaits you at The Mushroom Houses, you may decide to stay blissfully put, and simply let your surroundings captivate you with their unique charm.
