The Layby Lincs couldn’t be more perfectly – or peacefully – located, on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Just 15 minutes from the sweeping coast, the adults-only, pet-friendly site boasts a mature garden, an orchard, and a glistening wildlife pond: all surrounded by the lush fields and rolling hills that characterise this mesmerising part of the world.

Elegantly positioned around the wildlife pond, each of the Layby Lincs’ retreats-for-two was once a functioning vehicle. They’ve since been creatively converted by owners Louise and Alex to include sumptuous furnishings and private facilities, for a stay that feels like unwinding in a luxurious cottage.

Whichever air-conditioned vehicle you choose, you’ll have your very own al fresco kitchen and barbecue, a bathroom with a rainfall shower, and a wood-fired hot tub for stargazing (one night’s hot tub use is included in the price of your stay). Along with comfy kingsize bedding, Louise and Alex even provide towels, robes and slippers, so you can pack perfectly light.

Although each vehicle is dog-friendly, two – Gee Gee and Dennis – feature private enclosed gardens for them to go off-lead (note: the site is home to free-range chickens and protected birdlife).

Gee Gee is a 1994 Iveco racehorse transporter with country-inspired décor and a pond-view deck for morning coffee, while Dennis is a vibrant, industrial-themed 1972 fire engine with a wood-panelled ceiling and a kingsize bed in the cab!

Choose Peggy Sue for sparkling vintage glamour: a 26-foot, 1955 Airstream Cruiser that hails all the way from Ohio. Decorated in pale blues, pinks, and gleaming chrome, you’ll feel as though you’re relaxing in an authentic 1950’s American diner.

More information

A 1971 Chevy Mobilux RV, Alabama boasts the original driver’s seat and dashboard, together with a sparkly disco ball and lava lamp for a fun retro feel. And last but by no means least, Willy is a 1973 Ford F250 Camper Special: a Tardis-like space with Mexican blanket-style sofa cushions and a cab that feels like chilling at the drive-in movies.

Powered completely by solar and with a creative repurposing and recycling policy, the site is as sustainable as it is beautiful… so you can relax without worrying about your impact on the breathtaking natural environment.

If you’re heading out to explore, a half-hour walk will lead you to the local community hall, complete with a licensed bar and a regular programme of events. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants just a short drive away, too, along with antique shops to browse in nearby Horncastle, and fascinating trails to walk or cycle your way through.

What else? Highlights include beautiful beaches to explore with your dog, wildlife parks and seal sanctuaries to visit, and even a National Trust property – Gunby Estate Hall and Gardens – close by.

(There’s so much to see, do and sample here, in fact, that you could book a separate stay in each Layby Lincs vehicle and devise a wildly different holiday itinerary each time!)

Things to note

Please advise at the time of booking if you will be bringing your dog, so appropriate recommendations and arrangements can be made. There are free-range chickens and protected birdlife on site. There is an additional charge for subsequent nights’ use of the hot tub. Please visit the property website for more detailed recommendations of the many attractions and activities in the local area. Note that some local beaches allow dogs at restricted times – please check in advance.
