Gaze dreamily out at the Atlantic Ocean from the sumptuous comfort of your very own private, palm-fringed paradise… recently reopened after major, breath-taking upgrades!
  • Sleeps: 6
  • Bedrooms: 3
  • Bathrooms: 3
  • Minimum stay: 3 nights

Perched proudly on top of a 70ft rock stack that soars high above Newquay’s famed Towan Beach, The Island promises to cast you adrift from the rest of the world. Completely surrounded by shimmering water at high tide, you can only gain access by crossing an elegant suspension footbridge… a staggering experience in itself, as George Clarke himself can attest.

The hideaway house was once a tea room, modernised to sleep up to six guests and recently re-opened after a 16-month period of major upgrades by the dedicated owners. You’ll want to raise your flag of choice immediately, signifying to the beachgoers below that The Island is proudly occupied!

Inside you’ll be surrounded by soft, natural greys and whites, complemented by Scandi-style natural wood and thoughtfully-chosen art by local and family artists. Indulgent touches include underfloor heating and a crackling wood-burner to warm cooler evenings, with rocking chairs in the scenic bay window – binoculars provided for seal-watching.

One of the stars of those recent renovations, the open-plan kitchen-diner has been purposefully designed to allow natural sunlight to flood inside. You’ll also have everything you need to whip up super-sized feasts (though you could always arrange for a private chef to pop in if you prefer).

Stay put in the light-filled dining area, enjoy a sizzling supper whipped up on the innovative Braaisland barbecue table in the garden, or head for the conservatory with a light lunch. If you need entertainment in-between or after meals, the Magic Hat Bar is a supreme social space with a bar billiards table, a 40” TV, and a pre-stocked bar – cheers!

The horizon-view master suite is a supreme labour of love and the jewel in The Island’s crown: newly-crafted from the attic space and absurdly romantic. Furnished with a superking size bed and a freestanding bathtub, you’ll also have a small balcony for morning coffee-with-a-view. Oh, and a deluxe en-suite shower room with a large sea-facing porthole window.

Two further bedrooms include Quay West, a twin or superking with a brand-new, huge triangular window that faces vast expanses of beach and the original New Quay harbour – with a twin shower and skylight just for you. Last but not least, the Secret Garden bedroom can also be made into a superking or twin: deliciously tucked away with an en-suite shower room and gorgeous garden views from the bay window.
