Originally built in 1915, Chicago’s Emil Bach House has to count as one of the most unique and interesting homes in America.
This accolade is all thanks to its famously characterful architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, whose pioneering philosophy changed the face of architecture and has won multiple awards. In homage, the Emil Bach House is an official Chicago Landmark, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Set in the friendly and diverse Rogers Park neighbourhood, this is a prairie-style home that has been lovingly restored to showcase its original design – intended by Frank Lloyd Wright to represent a “path of discovery”.
Indeed, you’ll be enjoying some refreshing twists and turns even before you reach the front door! Once inside, get ready to be enthralled by an array of stunning design features that include a giant fireplace, and Wright’s signature ‘built-ins’ including bookshelves, dressers and benches.
You’ll find plenty of space to relax in, with a large living and dining space downstairs, and two generous bedrooms upstairs. Relax in the Japanese ‘tea house’ in the back, or laze on the open deck on long, sunny afternoons.
Step outside to discover the shoppers’ paradise that is Chicago, with convenient transport links just outside the door. However, we’re willing to bet that given the opportunity to stay in such an architectural marvel, not to mention one of the few Wright houses available for the public to sleep in, you won’t mind staying put!
