Three gorgeous farm glamping cabins-for-two with al fresco tubs and luxury facilities, beautifully nestled on the tranquil brow of a hill that overlooks the Monnow Valley and Black Mountains.
  • Sleeps: 2 per cabin
  • Bedroom: 1
  • Bathroom: 1
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights

Occupying an idyllic rural setting, The Dragon’s Gate is part of a historic, family-run working farm that forms part of the scenic Welsh border, with the river Monnow flowing through its peaceful, sheep-dotted fields.

Here you can hold the wedding of your dreams in The Great Barn, camp in the sheltered meadow valley, or simply hunker down with your loved one in your choice of three lavish, adults-only glamping cabins.

Although you’ll be situated less than a mile from the ancient village of Garway (not to mention friendly local pubs!) it’ll feel as though you’re worlds away from anywhere in particular, as you savour undisturbed views that lead your gaze over the Monnow Valley, all the way out to the soaring Black Mountains.

Each cabin boasts a well-equipped kitchenette, a downy kingsize bed with en-suite shower facilities, and an opulent chaise longue for high-quality lounging. Yet each cabin also boasts its own distinctive style, along with plenty of added sensory delights.

If the Pen-y-Fan cabin seems familiar, it could be because you’ve seen it before – on the popular BBC TV show My Unique B&B. Lovingly bespoke-designed, you can wake up to soothing valley views right from your hand-built oak bed, while outside awaits a double hammock and a Swedish Hikki wood-fired hot tub set on its own private, scenery-showcasing deck.

Filled with charm, character, and warmth, The Graig cabin also features a private wood-fired hot tub, together with a firepit and barbecue that will have you lingering outside for what feels like blissful eternity, counting the stars in the dark night sky.

Last but by no means least, The Cat’s Back – named after the majestic mountain you’ll be able to spot on the horizon – sports the largest deck, and an al fresco bathtub that’s big enough for two… perfect for couples who really love to luxuriate in everything the Great Outdoors has to offer.

More information

Prefer a little less modern luxury? Pitch your tent in that beautiful meadow, with 360-degree views of both Welsh and English countryside, shared facilities, and access to wild swimming on the farm… for the most invigorating way possible to start your day!

As for what you’ll do with the rest of it, you could choose to curl up with that book you never seem to find time for at home, or take the dedicated footpath that leads from the farm site up to Garway Hill, where you can spot grazing wild ponies (you could also choose to travel down to the Monnow Valley, instead!)

The village itself is quaint and fascinating: home to a celebrated Grade I-listed church and 14th century dovecote that once featured on the BBC drama Bonekickers.

Hole yourselves up awhile in the Garway Moon Inn, a cosy 18th century pub that serves delicious food you didn’t have to cook, before making your way back to your chosen retreat, all ready to catch the sun sinking into that stirring, mountainous horizon.

Things to note

Cabin check-in days are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, minimum 2-night stay. Only tents are permitted to camp in the meadow (no motorhomes or caravans) and any children must be supervised at all times. Please see the owners’ website for details of weddings and events that can be held on site.
