Nestled in stunning Carmarthenshire, the Ceridwen Centre at Penybanc Farm offers the opportunity to stay in anything from a double-decker bus to a Derwen yurt with hot tub. And with several different sized function rooms onsite – it’s also the perfect choice for weddings, retreats, and special celebrations.

With no fewer than eight accommodation choices at the Ceridwen Centre, there’s certainly something to suit all tastes, budgets and group sizes – and more than a couple of surprises along the way!

Ceridwen (sleeps 19)
Ceridwen is a huge, warm, comfortable stone-and-slate house, frequently described as Tardis-like by visitors (!), found on the site of the old smithy and stables. With eight bedrooms, Ceridwen offers the opportunity for large multi-generation groups, or families holidaying together, to be together and to do their own thing. It’s also rated 4-star by Visit Wales, so you can be sure of a most comfortable stay!

The Double Decker Bus (sleeps up to 6)
Climb aboard the 1964 Leyland Titan Double Decker Bus for a holiday with a difference! Beautifully restored on the outside, and creatively converted inside, this cream-and-blue gem offers a stay to remember. A fully fitted kitchen and dining area are found on the lower deck, while a double sofa bed makes for a cosy night’s sleep behind the driver’s cabin (made all the toastier by the central heating!). Upstairs, two separate double bedrooms await, each with their own toilet and separate access – one via the original stairs, and the other via a foldaway ladder! The bus stop sits at the rear of the bus and contains two showers, one with a view and extra toilet. You can also soak up the gorgeous valley views from your perfect, private decking area.

The Hop Shack (sleeps 4 to 5)
From the outside, you might not realise the Hop Shack was once a static caravan! Now clad in local timber and topped with a recycled, corrugated tin roof, the upcycled caravan blends original features and some new additions. Vintage lovers will adore the original green kitchen and printed wallpaper in the cosy living area, which is kept warm by the wood-burning stove. The caravan has been extended with two comfortable bedrooms, warmed beautifully by electric heaters. A double bed can be found in each bedroom, as well as an extra single in one of the rooms. One bedroom has en-suite facilities, while a second shower and toilet is found next to the kitchen. And everyone will love the charming veranda, complete with hops in pots and lovely views of the organic veggie garden!

Caban Bach (sleeps 2)
Hand built with recycled materials, Caban Bach is a glamper’s paradise! This arched, wooden cabin incorporates your living, sleeping and cooking space all under one roof, as well as a BBQ and dining furniture outside. The hob, sink and fridge makes for simple self-catering, and as you curl up in the double bed, the outstanding insulation will keep you warm all night long. Caban Bach also has electric lighting and an electric heater for chillier days – so you won’t miss your creature comforts!

More information

If you’re visiting the Ceridwen Centre between April and October, why not try out one of their Middle Eastern-inspired yurts? Each one is made from bentwood, furnished with traditional rugs and eclectic furniture, and finished with hardwood floors and a wooden front door. Sleep comfortably in a proper bed (no campbeds here!), and stay warm thanks to the log burners.

Perfect for couples or a small family, you’ll find three 16ft yurts (the Orchard Yurts) in an old orchard garden overlooking the beautiful valley. Outside, each yurt has its own decking and garden area with outdoor seating, as well as shared use of cooking facilities in the summer house and outside under shelter eating area.

Bryn Helyg yurt, with electric, is found at the top of the tipi meadow field. This has an outside under shelter kitchen with everything needed to cook off and eat with, plus a bath/shower in the willow and private compost loo. There is outdoor seating and a BBQ for alfresco dining!

Derwen Yurt, sits on a wooden decking overlooking a stunning wooded valley. This offgrid yurt has a private hot tub around the side, outdoor seating area with firepit, an undercovered kitchen with gas hob, sink and cool box. To keep this space beautifully self contained, a private compost loo and outdoor warm shower are close by.

Eco-friendly facilities
The owners of the Ceridwen Centre put the environment at the heart of everything they do, so you can be sure your holiday won’t be at the expense of the earth! As well as conventional showers in the Old Dairy, guests staying in the Orchard yurts and Caban Bach have use of eco-loos and warm showers in a converted shepherd’s hut. An onsite borehole supplies and purifies all water, and energy is provided through renewable sources. With a concerted effort to reduce, reuse and recycle, every opportunity has been taken to ‘go green’ at the Ceridwen Centre. And if you join in too, you could even be rewarded for your efforts!

As well as a stunning location and fantastic accommodation to enjoy, there’s no end of ways to fill your days at the Ceridwen Centre. Explore Penybanc on a farm walk; only 15-20 minutes long, it’s perfect for children (and even the dog can come too!). Capture some of the beautiful views under the guidance of the onsite art teacher by prior arrangement, or take time to relax with a pre-booked beauty and holistic therapy treatment. And speaking of relaxation, make sure you book a night in the onsite Eco Hot Tub! Seating six, it’s available to all guests to the farm on an exclusive evening-by-evening hire basis.

Cyclists will love the onsite bike skills area and pump track run by West Wales Trails, which also offers bike guiding to guests on request, as well as bike maintenance – very handy! In the summer holidays, enjoy a game of table tennis in the Yard Tipi, and you could always reserve a table at one of Ceridwens food nights. Check out the events page on the website! A licensed bar can also be opened in the Pole barn for specific events.

The Teifi Valley area is fantastic for walking, fishing, birdwatching, and beachcombing. Bring your sketchpad or your camera to capture some of the beautiful views, or explore the range of arts and crafts produced in the area.

With so much on offer at the Ceridwen Centre, it’s difficult to do this fantastic place justice in just a few words. You simply need to experience it for yourself…

What the guests of The Ceridwen Centre say

“I highly recommend a stay in
Ceridwen. I hired the house for my 30th birthday weekend with family and
friends. It is a well maintained, well equipped and spacious building. At the
same time it has a rustic, traditional charm. The beds and showers are
comfortable; the kitchen is a pleasure to cook in and the living spaces are
cosy. We went for some lovely long walks and really enjoyed exploring the
beautiful surrounding hills. The service of the team was excellent. We had such
a wonderful time that I hope to be returning before too long.”
M. Bovenmars

“Lovely peaceful place, we stayed in
the hopshack which was was immaculate with everything that’s needed
thoughtfully left out by the owners even down to homemade brownies for our sons
birthday. Highly recommended.”
A. Bell

“Absolutely love it here! My partner
is in a wheelchair and could not have been more accommodating, they created
screwed in ramps for the toilet and gave us parking access right next to the
Yurt. The owners were lovely and chatty and made sure we had everything we
needed. Would recommend this place to anyone.”
