Judge and jury have spoken: doing time just got a whole lot more fun at The Cell Block, where you're invited to holiday in luxurious solitary confinement at this old city jail in Texas!
  • Sleeps: 2
  • Bedroom: 1
  • Bathroom: 1
  • Minimum stay: 1 night

The Cell Block is found in the city of Clifton, now a popular arts hub in the Lone Star State. Originally built to hold local louts and the occasional citizen who’d enjoyed rather more moonshine than their limits would allow, this concrete cubicle has undergone an ingenious renovation to become totally quirky holiday accommodation.

Sleeping two adults, you’ll find references to The Cell Block’s past throughout this awesome abode – like the metal bars which separate each room, or the retro record player with vinyl ranging from ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ to ‘The Secret Policeman’s Ball’! You’ll still find bars on the windows (surely an essential part of a night in prison!) and an iron gate leading from the living area to the bedroom. The only thing missing is the jailer!

Banish all preconceptions, though, of a former city jail feeling uncomfortable or uneasy. Although the building dates back to the days of Bonnie and Clyde, local stories detail how The Cell Block in its heyday was actually a convivial, easy-going place to find yourself banged up for the night! The jailer was even known to invite an inmate or two to join him in a game of dominoes if he was short of players – and if you like the sound of that yourself, you’ll find a pack of handcrafted dominoes in an old wooden cigar box at The Cell Block!

And as many of The Cell Block’s former residents often found themselves inside for imbibing one too many, you’re invited to raise a glass in their honour – courtesy of the complimentary wine and whisky you’ll find on arrival! Think of The Cell Block as more of a Bed and Booze rather than a Bed and Breakfast, as you indulge in a bottle of its exclusive private label – The Cell Block’s Tempranillo – or the flask of Single Malt Whisky from Waco’s Balcones Distillery. Hic!

You’ll also be pleased to know that there’s nothing sparse about this particular prison block, so you’ll also enjoy every moment in total luxury. Modern yet minimalist interior design creates a tranquil, stylish feel – perfect to help you unwind from life’s stresses.

Relax in the living room as you listen to music with your favourite jailbird or plan escapades around Clifton and beyond. In the bedroom, the pair of you can sink into the wonderfully comfy queen size bed for a peaceful night’s sleep.  Come morning, freshen up in the beautiful bathroom, with its luxurious walk-in shower and complimentary toiletries (complete with their own brand of dark humour – but we won’t spoil the surprise…!).

The Cell Block even boasts its own prison yard – a fabulous rooftop terrace with seating, loungers and a gas fire pit. At night, it’s the perfect spot for stargazing, while daytime brings the opportunity to marvel at the handiwork of the many local artists who have turned this part of Clifton into a visual masterpiece. Hand-painted murals adorn the walls of nearby buildings, giving rise to this area’s name – Clifton Art Alley. And your prison yard offers some of the best seats in the house!
