The Bowie, Winchester
A futuristic, architect-designed Smart House that’s styled and themed in detail-rich homage to David Bowie, peacefully secluded in a historic Hampshire village close to Winchester.
  • Sleeps: 6
  • Bedrooms: 3
  • Bathrooms: 2
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights

The Bowie is a true ‘wow-factor’ retreat, authentically styled and themed in honour of the Starman himself. Set in the Hampshire village of Kings Worthy, the dazzling, innovative Smart House is a mere three miles from the historic city of Winchester.

A David Bowie superfan, proud owner David worked with a local team of architects to create his vision of a dream home: a sleek, sociable, and minimalist Smart House filled with impeccably stylish furniture, statement lighting… and his own collection of original Bowie memorabilia.

Among the captivating artwork, prints and magazine covers that adorn the walls – including Bowie’s 1975 police mugshot! – is a heady combination of detail-rich nostalgia and a mix of cutting-edge with old-school tech: true Conversation Pieces and with plenty of scope for photo-snapping whether you happen to be a Bowie fan or not.

As you might imagine, there’s also plenty of scope to listen to Bowie’s outrageously creative and versatile back catalogue, whether on the original Philips EL 3302 cassette player, the PrinzSound SM8 Spaceball 8 Track Cartridge player… or indeed, the spectacular Wurlitzer Niagara Jukebox from 1979, loaded with 80 Bowie vinyl singles.

Of course, this being a Smart House, all you’ll have to do is press the ‘Bowie Sound’ button and music will play through the ceiling speakers as if by magic – with a different Bowie album playing in each room! Yes, even in the bathrooms, where the lights also dim to a relaxing glow at the mere touch of a button.

There’s a dedicated cinema-style room, too, equipped with a 55” TV and a cosy sofa. Press ‘Bowie Vision’ and the TV turns on, the blind closes and the lights dim. So get ready to get gloriously lost in one of Bowie’s iconic movies, documentaries, live performances, or TV appearances. You can even tune into the radios and listen to some of Bowie’s audio appearances!

Meanwhile, the eye-catching red Ligne Roset Togo sofa is perfect for snuggling down in front of the 65” TV or reading Bowie’s interviews in one of the original copies of the NME, Melody Maker, Jackie or Look-in from the 1970s.
