Sutton Windmill
- Sleeps: 8
- Bedrooms: 3
- Bathroom: 1
- Minimum stay: 2 nights
Originallybuilt in 1789, Sutton Windmill is formally listed as being of special architectural and historic interest.
It’s easy to see why, since the Norfolk landmark is reputed to be one of the tallest windmills in the country. Stretching out across nine floors, its views of the surrounding countryside and coastline are truly outstanding.
Once used for milling corn for animal feed, a 1940 lightning strike put a dramatic end to the windmill’s official duties. Happily, in 2021 the building underwent a complete makeover, and is now a unique and sumptuous retreat for up to eight guests and their two well-behaved dogs.
Accommodation is generously spaced across the entire ground floor, with a relaxed open-plan living, kitchen, and dining space that leads to a charming enclosed garden… in which you’ll find a stargazing hot tub!
Choose your favourite of three bedrooms: a kingsize room with its own ensuite facilities, a fun twin-and-bunk room, and a cosy single. There’s a comfy double sofa bed in the lounge, too.
Once you’ve settled in, you’ll find plenty of attractions in easy reach. These include the sandy beach at Sea Palling, which is under 15 minutes away by car, and Sutton Staithe – otherwise known as the gateway to the Norfolk Broads.
