Beautifully positioned just a stone’s throw from the iconic beach at Southwold, the historic hamlet of Easton Bavents was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086.
Although this designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty forms part of a peaceful and private farm estate these days, the setting itself is soothingly timeless, combining the freshness of the countryside with rejuvenating coastal air, and picture-perfect sea scenes.
It’s here that you’ll discover a selection of blissfully secluded, custom-created clifftop sanctuaries, designed by Beech Architects in Thorndon, Suffolk. Purpose-built to blend with their beautiful surroundings, you’ll find each one filled with cosy, contemporary furnishings and high-end accessories.
Two of these idyllic holiday homes, The Listening Station, and The Watch Room, were built on a Royal Navy site that was used during World War Two… when Southwold wrens would listen out carefully for German U-boats.
Sleeping four guests in two ridiculously comfy en-suite bedrooms, the dog-friendly Listening Station looks wistfully out towards the cliffs and beaches of Covehithe, with romantic coastal walks and abundant birdlife just outside the door.
The Watch Room also sleeps four guests in two en-suite bedrooms, and faces Southwold Pier for calming views over morning coffee (in fact, the ambience is so relaxing here, that you’d never guess bustling Southwold itself is just a short stroll away!)
Both of these homes boast a sociable central living and dining area, which leads out to a decked terrace you’ll want to spend the rest of your life on, chatting with your loved ones to the refreshing sounds of the sea and the birds.

More information
Meanwhile, The Easternmost Cabin is a larch-clad retreat that’s perfect for a couple in need of peaceful reconnection. Revel in spectacular sea views from the large arched window in the living area… though if you prefer getting up close and personal with the scenery, a two-minute walk leads you romantically down a cliff path, to a secluded beach.
The Warren House is a beautifully renovated farmhouse that sleeps up to eight guests (a well-behaved dog is also welcome), perfectly secluded on the cliff top for spectacular views out to sea. The upstairs sitting room makes the most of that breath-taking seascape, particularly when you head through the French doors and out onto the spacious balcony!
Brand-new for 2024 is Scylla, the first of a trio of Sea Dragons: architect-designed cabins with scale-like cedar cladding and ‘winged’ roofs, inspired by Suffolk legend and facing the vast, wide open North Sea. Perfect for a romantic couple, single-level Scylla boasts breath-taking views all the way across the sweeping coastline… an ideal accompaniment to morning coffee.
Whichever retreat you choose, you can expect large, downy beds with sea views to wake to, well-equipped kitchens (that include essentials such as a Nespresso machine, a microwave, and a dishwasher!) and entertainment luxuries including a Sonos sound system, and a Freeview TV.
We doubt you’ll feel very much like going out, but if you do then Southwold is waiting, with its colourful array of beach huts, iconic lighthouse, and amusement-strewn pier all ready to enthral you.
Simply head out for a windswept walk along your private track, and you’ll be there within minutes.
Things to note
The Listening Station, The Warren House, and Scylla are pet friendly. Check in at 4pm, check out by 10am. All properties except The Warren House are single level, though please note that they are set on a cliff top, so children and pets must be supervised at all times.
