Each day, eight trains chug smoothly along their merry way between Swansea and Shrewsbury… with their drivers and conductors often sharing a cheerful wave as they pass through.

A former Victorian railway building, the characterful cottage is both Grade II-listed and noted in Pevsner’s acclaimed Buildings of England series of books. Many of its original features have been carefully preserved for over 150 years, to evoke a wonderful sense of travelling back in time.

It’s just that these days, instead of wandering into the station’s bustling ticket office and waiting room, you’ll be welcomed into the cosy confines of Station Cottage, instead!

Sleeping up to four guests in a comfy double and twin bedroom (one well-behaved dog is welcome to stay too), there’s a well-equipped kitchen to whip up hearty railside catering, and a relaxing lounge with a soft-glowing wood-burner to help warm chilly evenings.

If the sun’s shining, you could choose to head out to the charming furnished garden and enjoy an evening tipple over good conversation, as you watch swifts darting here, there, and everywhere. Meanwhile, younger guests will be enthralled by the delightful wooden train-set gainfully provided by the hosts.

Both the lounge and kitchen boast glorious views out to Bucknell Mynd; a lush green hill that may well stir some thoughts of exploring, particularly when sat at the window-facing breakfast bar over that first coffee of the day!

But for those who enjoy a long and invigorating hike through idyllic countryside, this is the perfect place to test out your walking boots. And with mile upon mile of footpath and bridleway starting right from the front door, there’s no excuse not to indulge!

Of course, you could also relax on a nostalgic train journey along the Heart of Wales line itself. Shop ‘til you drop in historic Shrewsbury, take the Heart of Wales Line Walking Trail from Craven Arms, or cross the border into Wales and get lost in floriferous, sheep-dotted mountain scenery.

With so much charm, beauty, and welcoming warmth emanating both from the cottage and its picture-perfect surroundings, it’s almost certain that you’ll book a return trip to Station Cottage Bucknell just as soon as you’re able.

One well-behaved small-to-medium-sized dog is permitted, as long as they are kept downstairs and out of the bedrooms. Please note that the cottage garden is not enclosed.
