  • Bedrooms: 1 per cabin
  • Bathrooms: 1 per cabin
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights

Chosen as one of The Times’ Most Magical UK Cabin Stays, Starcroft Farm Cabins occupy a special slice of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Here, the dark night sky glistens with stars and the rural landscape is reassuringly untouched by time.

The family-run farm once formed part of the ancient Battle Abbey Estate, with the historic town itself in easy wandering distance along the famed 1066 Country Walk. Owners Hannah and Tom felt suitably inspired to create three luxurious, Tiny House-style eco-cabins; each designed to connect guests with these mesmerising natural surroundings.

Exquisitely crafted, eco-friendly and completely unique, each cabin is named after an extraordinary woman connected to Battle Abbey during three notable eras: medieval (Matilda), Victorian (Catherine), and the Roaring Twenties (Lucy). Both Lucy and Matilda are dog-friendly, so your best four-legged friend can join you on your well-deserved break.

Inside, you’ll find a curated collection of art, accessories, and books related to each of these women and the times they lived in, including a bespoke stained-glass window, fresh flowers and creative, colourful décor.

As if that wasn’t quite enough, there’s a stargazing window right above your cosy double bed, and a fold-up desk-with-a-view… ideal for sparking fresh ideas to share on the page, whether sketched or written.

Oh, and you’ll also be surrounded by indulgent luxuries that include toasty heating, an AeroPress coffee maker to charge lazy mornings spent out on the meadow-view deck, and sumptuous hand-made toiletries to use in the piping-hot shower (there are fresh towels and a flushing toilet, too).

In need of an extra treat? Hannah and Tom will happily provide everything from beautifully-wrapped, hand-picked books from their award-winning local bookseller, to delectable breakfast hampers and relaxing massages with a local therapist.

What the guests of Starcroft Farm Cabins say

“We stayed at the Matilda cabin for a birthday celebration – the whole weekend through I couldn’t stop saying how “utterly delightful” the whole place was! From the cosiest bed I’ve ever slept in, to the gorgeous natural surroundings and excellent stargazing, we really had a perfect weekend. The attention to detail is astounding, with stunning decor, thoughtful design in the kitchen and bathroom, and excellent reading provided! We really enjoyed dipping into the history of the local area and reading lots throughout our stay. We explored the local area through the 1066 Country Walk which was a lovely way to see and learn more. All extras also come highly recommended – from cake to flowers, and the most thoughtful decorations too. And the breakfast hamper! Just wonderful. Go and stay here, you will not regret it one bit. We can’t wait to come back.”

“I have loved every moment. 100% perfect place to write and think. Being away from home I feel so much freer to focus on my creative work rather than endless housework and admin – HEAVEN!”

“I had such a wonderful stay in the Lucy cabin. I’d booked to have some focussed time for writing and managed to get through editing half of my novel as I was able to relax and focus so well. The cabin was so lovely and well equipped and all the wonderful personal touches on arrival (yummy chocolate, tea and biscuits!) really made it feel homely and special immediately. There’s also lots of great stuff nearby for walks and food so you can stretch your legs; a farm shop cafe and Battle is not far. Hannah was such an amazing host and offered lots of help for navigating the surrounding area. My partner also joined me for the final night of my stay, so I got to enjoy the best of both, having the cabin for focus and enjoying as a couple. Can’t recommend Starcroft Farm Cabins enough; I’m already planning my next stay!”
