If you’re looking to get your loved ones together and spirit yourselves away from the breakneck speed of daily life in a haven that perfectly combines a love of ancient tradition with creative imagination, you’ll find your heavenly sanctuary in St Curig’s Church.
Tucked quaintly away in the mountain village of Capel Curig, this quirky and stylish living conversion, sleeping up to sixteen people, faithfully preserves the building’s original features with magnificent high ceilings and windows that allow plentiful natural light to flood inside. Its present, stunning, incarnation represents a real labour of love whose story inspired a host of Sunday Times columns written by its owner, Lady Alice Douglas.
Lady Douglas lives close by in the Vestry cottage and so is usefully on hand to answer any questions. You’ll find St Curig’s Church to be a cosy family home and a lively social environment with never a dull moment.
St Curig’s Church boasts some divinely unique features you’ll be talking excitedly about for a long time following your stay. How about sleeping beneath an exquisitely carved stone pulpit, or taking a bottle of fizz out to the hot tub, to watch the sun gently setting over the Snowdon Horseshoe? If you prefer something more energetic, there’s always the option of a game of table tennis…played beneath a spectacular 19th century mosaic ceiling!
In the unlikely event that you tire of the scenery inside, you’ll only have to take a look out of the windows in any of the rooms, to view the marvellous, inspiring vista of Snowdonia’s famous mountains in all their glory.
Claim your cosy bed from one of four spacious, beautifully designed en-suite rooms. For lovers of romantic tradition, two rooms feature hand-carved four-poster beds, and there are two well-furnished twin rooms. You’ll also find another twin room, plus a shared bunk room with four beds – a favourite with younger guests! The bunk room also features stunning views towards the Carneddau Mountains.
Even larger groups will be kept comfortable all night, with a sofa bed in the main lounge and two additional trundle beds (which can be moved into any room), and with a coal fire and underfloor heating throughout, you’ll be kept toasty warm even through the colder months.Keep reading
