Skoolie Stays is the spectacular result of an epic family gap year, spent travelling 14,000 miles through the good ol’ US of A!
Living on board an off-grid Skoolie – an iconic American school bus – the friendly owners even stayed for a few months with a dedicated Skoolie community, learning how to convert these iconic vehicles into truly spectacular living spaces. When it came time to return home, they felt inspired to bring a new bus back with them to convert themselves.
Sleeping up to four guests, their amazing bus is now beautifully positioned on a quiet farm close to the South Downs National Park, for a unique off-grid glamping break that offers a perfect balance of luxury, freedom, and low-impact living.
From the moment you step on board, you’ll marvel at the imagination and pure attention to detail throughout.
Toastily insulated with sheep’s wool, and warmed by a clean-burning log stove, the high-ceilinged interior has been lovingly hand-built using recycled American oak and recovered teak… including solid oak herringbone flooring.
Along with artistic flourishes and craft-led décor, there are plenty of creative nods to the past, including a gorgeous ‘American diner’ eating space, expertly crafted from the original bus seats and a real school table. Not to mention the driver’s cab area, with all the buttons and levers perfectly intact!
Fully self-contained, you’ll discover a spacious on-board kitchen with a gas-stove top and a fridge-freezer, while the bathroom is much more than you might reasonably expect in a bus, featuring a shiny-tiled shower. There’s also a state-of-the-art, odour-free composting loo.
