SKOG – the Swedish word for “forest” – comprises a small, exclusive collection of igloo retreats with heated floors and the most spectacular views of magical, snow-covered Swedish Lapland.
You’ll find the sumptuous woodland resort in the town of Kalix: a ‘hidden gem’ peppered with independent shops, stunning beaches, and a 792-island Bay of Bothnia archipelago to explore. Part of Sweden’s northernmost county, chances of viewing the Northern Lights from your igloo are high, particularly during the winter months.
Each Aurora Igloo (standard or deluxe) sleeps a couple or a small family comfortably, with a cosy queen-sized bed and two child-sized singles. The large, clean-lined living space boasts mirrored panoramic windows for you to gaze across the glistening landscape and out to the sky… so if those beautiful dancing lights decide to make an appearance, you’ll be in prime viewing position.
Your igloo also comes complete with storage, a handy waterless toilet, and a kitchenette with a coffee maker to help you welcome each new day. The main resort building, just a short stroll away, is home to a fully-equipped kitchen and breakfast room. Here you’ll also find shower and toilet facilities – and if you’re in the mood for a treat, a glass-roofed Aurora sauna that can be reserved on request.
What else? Along with a souvenir shop, there’s also a Nordic spa and an al fresco hot tub available on site; ideal for a well-deserved pampering session after a long day out exploring all the delights of Kalix.
You can certainly choose from a wide array of activities to help you while away that treasured holiday time, whether you’re visiting in the height of summer of the depths of winter.
(Whenever you visit, sampling the delicious local produce is a must! Kalix is justly famous for Kalix Löjrom: prized local caviar with Protected Designation of Origin status, frequently served at star-studded events including the Nobel banquet and royal weddings).
