RooksNest was designed and crafted by building designer Richard Jeffery as the ultimate eco-friendly romantic retreat, winning a 2024 Building Excellence Award in the process.

Flooded with natural light and steeped in luxury, the dog-friendly cabin soars over a private wooded valley in the coastal village of Stoke Fleming: set within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Wherever you choose to relax – over a glass of wine in the lounge, savouring a lazy lie-in, or indulging in a fragrant bubble-bath – you’ll be accompanied by the most incredible views of shimmering Start Bay waters.

If the sun is shining, large sliding doors will open up the entire cabin, to welcome the outside in. Wander out to the magnificent sun deck, cleverly crafted on stilts to make you feel at one with the surrounding nature… as well as showcasing dramatic coastline views. Here you can grab a sunbed and get lost in a good book, or fire up the Kamado barbecue for a sizzling supper.

There’s even a wood-fired hot tub for stargazing later on, and a heated outdoor shower for freshening up after a day spent lazing on your choice of South Devon beach.

Back inside, the open-plan living area is expansive and inviting, comprised of a sumptuous lounge, well-equipped kitchen, and a sea-facing dining area for meals-with-a-view. Here you’ll find a 65” Smart TV, Bose sound bar, and a soft-glowing woodburner: all wonderful accompaniments to cooler evenings.

Meanwhile, your opulent bedroom boasts a handmade superking bed, mirrored built-in wardrobes, and floor-to-ceiling windows with blackout blinds. While you can separate this room from the main living space, you may prefer leaving the sliding wall open for TV-watching in bed – true holiday indulgence, especially if you’ve ordered fresh French pastries for breakfast!

More information

Leaving this luxurious nest could prove a challenge, but if you can manage it, a wealth of sensory delights await. Hike along breezy coastal paths, trusty four-legged friends in tow, or lay out your towels on Blackpool Sands, one of Devon’s most beautiful beaches.

There are plenty of picturesque South Hams villages to explore, along with mouth-watering local produce to sample. If you’re celebrating something special, book a table at The Seahorse Restaurant, a waterfront wonder with a daily-changing seafood menu and accolades from the likes of Tom Parker-Bowles.

Prefer something a little further from the beaten tourist track? Pack a picnic and make your way down to the remote, shingle Sugary Cove beach – an ideal way to unwind before returning to your idyllic nest by sunset.
