RAF Wainfleet boasts a distinguished history. Beginning life way back in the 19th Century, the site reopened as a military firing range during World War Two, and was used by the celebrated Dambusters for practise. In later years, some of NATO’s most formidable warplanes were frequent visitors.
So it goes to follow that a stay in the former RAF Wainfleet Control Tower will be quite unlike any other!
Redeveloped into unique and modern holiday accommodation following its closure in 2010, the Tower has retained many of the artefacts that showcase its historical significance, whilst providing a platform for some the most magnificent views you’ll see. The Tower sleeps up to six people, and further single-storey accommodation can also be booked on site, sleeping up to 22 people in total – ideal for larger groups. The recent addition of a Westland Lynx Helicopter is a great extra, as it comes with a double bed, mini-fridge and TV, and can be added for an additional £35 per night with the owners in advance on request- for an added dose of adventure!
Situated in Friskney, near Skegness and a few miles from Gibraltar Point, the imposing building casts a grandly striking image as you arrive. You’ll find the décor light, bright and clean-lined throughout, with plenty of cosy luxury and contemporary fixtures, all set over four spacious floors.
The ground floor houses a handy utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer, while on the first and second floors you’ll find a comfortably-furnished bedroom, each including zip and link king-sized beds, along with an ensuite featuring an indulgent bath and a roomy shower.
Discover a third king-sized bedroom with ensuite on the third floor, together with a kitchen and dining area that features everything you need to prepare and devour plenty of tasty in-flight meals!
The fourth floor is the building’s jewel in the crown; a wonderfully welcoming, spacious and tastefully decorated living area, enveloped in a stunning glass observatory that offers unsurpassed, 360-degree views over sand flats, across the marsh to The Wash, and out to the bracing North Norfolk coastline.
