A mere hour from the hustle and bustle of London, you’ll discover Piglets Boutique B&B peacefully nestled amongst timeless countryside, in the ancient Essex village of Wimbish. 

Mentioned in the Domesday book, Wimbish has the honour of comprising more public footpaths than any other Essex village, so if you enjoy an energising hike through charming rural scenery, you’re in serious luck.

However, you’ll have to leave the sumptuous confines of Piglets first. And that could prove incredibly difficult, when friendly owners Chrissie and Max have made it their mission to make you feel as relaxed and as cosseted as possible!

For starters, you can choose from five stylish, characterful, en-suite rooms in the former piggery, each sleeping two guests in a downy superking bed (three of which can be made into twins if needed.)  

The three ground-floor rooms each feature a private entrance, while the first-floor rooms showcase beautiful views – Ashdon even boasts a private balcony that overlooks the shimmering natural swimming pond.

Steeped in five-star luxury and thoughtful detail, your chosen room includes an espresso machine, home-made biscuits, a Freeview and Netflix-equipped Smart TV, superfast WiFi, and clever motion-sensitive bedroom floor night lights that mean you won’t disturb your sleeping partner on late-night loo visits!

Meanwhile, you’ll find your indulgent en-suite stocked with complimentary Salvatore Ferragamo toiletries, and snuggly waffle robes.

Refreshments-wise, you’ll be offered an irresistibly warm foodie welcome, with a pot of tea and one of Chrissie’s mouth-watering home-baked cakes, and you’ll also be served a delicious breakfast every morning.  

There are also locally sourced deli platters, tapas small boards, even more scrummy cakes, and a menu of hearty evening meals to look forward to, along with a well-stocked, self-service honesty bar (complete with a gin library of no less than 50 gins!) to accompany blazing sunsets out on the Mediterranean patio, or in the Havana Cabana… an opulent, velvet-cushioned smokers’ gazebo.

What else? Well, you could take a dip in that long, glorious natural swimming pond, work up a sweat in the mini gym, or head to the games room and unleash your competitive spirit! Max’s previous life involved making some of the world’s finest board games, so you’ll find a selection of these here, along with darts, table tennis, table football, and a full-sized snooker table. Outside, the fun continues with a magnificent competition size Péntanque piste and a summer croquet lawn.

If you must insist on going out, don’t forget to order a tasty picnic in a rucksack hamper… the perfect accompaniment to a long country walk.  You can also purchase home made produce from the delightful Piglets Pantry.

There’s also a wellie library, umbrellas and cagoules to borrow, and Chrissie’s warming hot chocolate awaiting your return to Piglets, or as it’s sure to become known, your home-from-home in the countryside.

Things to note

Children, pets, and group bookings are not permitted. Check in from 4pm, check out by 11am. There is a 2-night minimum stay during the summer months, and from Thursday to Sunday at all other times.
