Beauty, peace and calm combine in two romantic Cornish riverside retreats: the former Smithy and Captain's Office of a Victorian tin mine.
  • Sleeps: 2 per cottage
  • Bedrooms: 1 per cottage
  • Bathrooms: 1 per cottage
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights

Okel Tor Mine consists of two very special cottage retreats, both perfectly positioned within an Ancient Monument and a World Heritage Site.

Dreamily set amongst sixteen glorious acres of wildlife-steeped woodland, the Grade II listed Count House and The Smithy are perfect for relaxation, romance and respite alike. Privately spaced, both feature outstanding views across the River Tamar to the soothing Devon hills.

Once a flourishing 19th century tin mine that also produced copper, lead and arsenic, Okel Tor Mine is located in the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with a Site of Special Scientific Interest nearby that means you’ll never tire of those wondrously diverse natural surroundings.

If you’re bringing your four-legged friend with you, so much the better – this is the ideal location for long, scenic riverside rambles! The pubs and National Trust’s tea room at Cotehele are all dog-friendly.

You’ll find each cottage has been lovingly restored, and decorated in a cosy style with all the comforts of home…including a crackling log burning stove, a squishy sofa and an irresistibly comfortable bedroom with king size bed.

Of course, you’ll also be able to make the most of those amazing views, with outdoor seating that’s perfect for morning coffee and evening tipples.

Each cottage has its very own history too. The quirky Count House was the former mine captain’s office, while The Smithy, with its vaulted ceiling and timber panelling, was once home to a forge and workshop.
