Blissfully secluded on the vast Red Kite Estate in Powys, Moon Conker is an ‘astro-pod’ retreat that offers a gentle feeling of remoteness in nature that’s reminiscent of the writer Henry David Thoreau’s Walden, a classic reflection on the simple life.
In the midst of your sheltered glade, you and your loved one can relax and reconnect, with a babbling brook and friendly woodland creatures as your only company!
Meanwhile, your unique, other-worldly orb is completely off grid, constructed with cutting-edge technology and expertise honed by creator Jag’s experience working with the likes of Bentley and Rolls Royce.
A gorgeous log burner means you’ll be perfectly toasty whatever the weather, while the cosy double bed is ideal for long, lazy lie-ins. By day, that same bed can be transformed into chairs and a table for comfy chats over a bottle of wine.
You’ll have an exclusive pentagon-shaped dining pod that’s made for romantic meals, gainfully equipped with a kitchenette that features a gas stove, cooking and dining equipment – oh, and a pizza oven with supplies to make your own fresh dough.
You’ll find that freshening up and relaxing go perfectly together too, with two al fresco baths that await you in a beautiful oval of trees. Use the bespoke-designed Kelly Kettle to heat them up with water pumped fresh from the stream (please note there is no running hot water in the Moon Conker, reflecting the ethos of an explorer’s life in the wilderness.)
You can also use the versatile Kelly Kettle to cook on, even turning it into a firepit later, when you’re watching the stars in that huge, crystal-clear night sky.

More information
The Red Kite Estate is part of the Cambrian Dark Skies Park, so you can expect the most amazing starry views, even when there’s a full moon. Luckily, you can continue gazing at them when you finally head back inside, as the windows have been purposefully placed in the ceiling, to create your very own observatory.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, just over the stream is your Swedish-style composting loo, which has been crafted as a ‘throne’ for you to enjoy! Please note that in line with Health and Safety requirements, the toilet is located around 350 yards away from the Moon Conker, accessed over the stream via a steep bank.
What to do with your time at Moon Conker? Well, you could always sit back and savour the chorus of birdsong and whispering trees in the valley below, as you watch those red kites soar into the sky.
But if you insist on venturing further afield, you can head straight into the green mountains of Elenydd, which lie just behind the estate. A designated Special Area of Conservation, the vista is unspoilt and truly magnificent.
You can stock up on supplies in nearby Newbridge-on-Wye, just ten minutes away by car… where you’ll also find a friendly local pub, if you feel so inclined!
However you decide to spend your day, you’re sure to crave another peaceful evening at Moon Conker, listening out for the soft owl’s hoot as you cradle a tipple under a blanket of stars.
Things to note
Check in from 4pm, check out by 11am. Regrettably, the accommodation is not suitable for guests with accessibility requirements, due to its steep access path which can also be slippery when wet. In line with health and safety regulations the composting toilet is accessed over the stream and up a steep bank, around 350 yards from the Conker. Image credits: Polly Lovegrove.
