Lizard Lighthouse, lit for the first time in 1751, is still a working lighthouse today, complete with two distinctive towers that have helped make it a much-loved Cornish landmark.

Located within the Lizard Peninsula, and on the southern-most tip of mainland Britain, the sweeping coastal views are an exhilarating joy to behold. Teamed with a cosy family cottage surrounded by rare flora and fauna, you’ve got everything you need for a unique holiday to remember.

Longships sleeps up to four people and one well-behaved dog, in a downy double room and a cosy twin. Both bedrooms look out over the sea, which means you can drift off every night to the soothing sound of the waves. 

(Being a working lighthouse, you may occasionally hear the electric fog signal on misty nights, but the thick stone walls – not to mention the provision of comfy earplugs! – will help you enjoy a silent night’s sleep).

Curl up in the cosy lounge, after a hearty meal prepared in the well-equipped kitchen…that is, if you’re not tempted to visit one of the many restaurants you’ll discover in nearby Lizard Village. A welcome hamper is also provided, filled with tempting local treats.

The lounge and dining room come complete with high ceilings and more of those amazing sea views, an ideal accompaniment to that first morning coffee. Meanwhile, plenty of loving attention to detail has been paid to the furnishings and décor, so you’ll find it irresistibly easy to relax.

There’s also an enclosed courtyard to spend time in on balmy afternoons, a perfect setting for romantic daydreamers.

• An excellent base from which to explore Cornish landmarks including St. Michael’s Mount and Tate St. Ives. Lizard Village is a short ¼ mile distance away, and features shops, restaurants and a pub.

Coastal walks on the Lizard Peninsula are, of course, almost endless, and you’ll have the opportunity to visit countless seaside towns on your way – all of which are home to teashops, independent shops and restaurants. Make sure you indulge in a traditional Cornish cream tea…an absolute must!

Indeed, this is an ideal base from which to really get under the skin of Cornwall, with noted landmarks including Lands End and the historic St. Michael’s Mount both within easy reach. 

For art lovers, a visit to the Tate St. Ives is essential, while the English Heritage properties of Pendennis Castle and St. Mawes are ideal for culture vultures.

However you decide to spend your time, make sure you head back to Longships just in time to catch the sun sinking over those spectacular cliffs. This is no ordinary coastal holiday, and as you’re soon to discover, Longships is no ordinary coastal cottage.

One well behaved dog is permitted to stay upon prior arrangement. Travel cot & highchair are available on request.  Minimum stay 2 nights. Electric fig signals sound during times of fog and mist, as this is a working lighthouse, so earplugs are provided for your comfort.
