A remotely secluded, architect-designed eco-lodge taken from the pages of a rustic Highland folktale, surrounded by soaring mountains with an outdoor sauna and breath-taking views of Loch Ewe.
  • Sleeps: 4
  • Bedrooms: 2
  • Bathrooms: 2
  • Minimum stay: 3 nights

You’ll find Lewie’s Croft nestled into the hills of Cove, a remote hamlet on the wild coast of Wester Ross. This is a place where nature’s untouched beauty reigns supreme: think soaring mountains, pristine sandy beaches, and shimmering sea views.

Boasting a green roof and rugged dry-stone walls, the eco-lodge complements these incredible surroundings to perfection, crafted from natural materials and designed by the award-winning architect Stuart Bagshaw, who is renowned for building unique homes in Scotland’s most remote locations.

Inside awaits a wealth of sumptuous attention to detail, from artisanal lighting and flagstone floors to super-stylish furniture, with well-chosen art that evokes a spirited sense of place. Meanwhile, curved walls and enormous windows are cosy, welcoming, and breath-taking all at once.

Light the fire and relax in the open-plan living space, gazing out to Loch Ewe from the oversized sofa (a particular treat during storms, especially when cradling a hot toddy!) as the designated cook whips up a feast in the well-equipped kitchen. There’s a large dining table to help you savour it, too.

On summer evenings, you might prefer an al fresco meal out on the patio, followed by a spot of wildlife-watching and a session in the four-person sauna to herald the melting sunset… bliss.

Back inside, you can snuggle up in the dedicated, cinema-like TV room – complete with a comfy sofa and squishy beanbags – or chat over your favourite tipples in the bar area. When it’s finally time to turn in, two indulgent en-suite bedrooms will be ready and waiting, both with superlative loch views to greet you each morning.

The master suite features a superking bed, a walk-in wardrobe and dressing room, direct access to the patio for morning coffee, and a shower room with even more loch views! The second, generous, kingsize bedroom is on the upper level, also with an en-suite bathroom.

More information

Ease into the day with some gentle yoga or meditation on the tranquil mezzanine, before deciding what you’ll do with the rest of your time. If you don’t feel like straying too far, simply relax in the garden with a book, and see if you can spot a golden eagle. There are plenty of trails to follow for picnics and even more wildlife-spotting, including – if you’re lucky – the elusive red deer.

Take a guided whale-spotting cruise, or even launch your own boat from Cove Harbour (available for a small fee). Sea-fishing is also available from the harbour, and along the coast.

What else? Stretch out your towel on the beach – there are plenty to choose from, including Cove beach just along the road – or perhaps take a stroll through the mesmerising Inverewe Gardens.

Nearby Gairloch is packed with delights, including an award-winning museum, nine-hole golf and the well-known Big Sand Beach. You’re also perfectly placed to embark on the iconic North Coast 500 driving route… that is, if you can tear yourselves away!

Things to note

Check in any day from 3pm. This is an adults-only retreat, unfortunately pets are not permitted. Note that the beds are superking and king only (rather than zip-and-link beds that can be made into twins), so there are no single bed options. No fires or barbecues are permitted outside due to the risk of wildfires. Please note that this is a remote location, although a good mobile phone signal should be available this will depend on the provider.
