Literally meaning the ‘walk of the gnomes’, La Balade des Gnomes certainly would not look out of place in a Tim Burton film. This unique hotel is situated in Durbuy, within the Luxembourg province of Belgium, nestled in the east of the country. This 17th Century cobbled town seems to be a fitting location for such an extraordinary collection of rooms. Once you have headed down the quiet country lane you will arrive to a rather unsuspecting farmhouse, and it is only upon stepping inside that you will fully appreciate this alternative world of wonders.
Choose from one of eleven individually designed rooms, each with its own distinct style and experience awaiting you. The wheeled Trojan Horse is arguably the most eye-catching pick of the bunch, with an impressive and handcrafted wood interior and accessed only by drawbridge. Or perhaps you would prefer a bed in a magical troll’s forest, or a Moroccan themed space with a star-lit ‘sky’ ceiling? Maybe you are better suited to the moon capsule room, as you embark on a celestial journey amongst the stars and planets. Or perhaps venture to the third floor where a sail boat in its own pool beckons..whatever your choice, you are assured an adventure!
The architect and visionary behind this incredible property is Mr Noel, and the restaurant that preceded the accommodation, La Gargouille (‘The Gargoyle’) is still open for business, so guests can also enjoy the mouth-watering bio-organic dishes that the restaurant is renowned for.
