Perfectly nestled in-between the Wye Valley and the Brecon Beacons National Park – not to mention a mere stone’s throw from Offa’s Dyke Path – Kaya at Blackhill Farm is the ideal base for revelling in the glorious Great Outdoors.
Owners Emily and Malik have gone to great lengths to create an instantly welcoming space for their guests to breathe out and relax (Kaya means “home” in isiXhosa, an official language of Malik’s native South Africa), in naturally luxurious surroundings that include trees and wildflowers they’ve planted themselves.
They’ve also crafted each haven – two yurts and a cosy Nook – themselves, with a little help from a talented team of experts. Unique furniture has been beautifully made from storm-felled wood and local materials, while the sustainable ethos also extends to the accessories provided… such as gorgeous cruelty-free and vegan toiletries.
So, which haven will you choose? Sky House Yurt is elevated on an enormous deck that overlooks the valley, complete with a romantic roll-top bathtub, a wood-burning stove, and an al fresco shower for energising freshen-ups. Oh, and if you feel your creative spirit start to awaken, don’t worry – you’ll find a selection of art materials and an easel, all ready and waiting to be used.
Looking for an even greater slice of peace and tranquillity? Pumla Yurt is secluded in a serene corner, filled with sensory delights that include a floor-to-ceiling-window-facing bed that’s perfect for watching the incredible late winter sunrises, an outdoor bath for two, a generous dining deck with barbecue, and a private mini walled garden teeming with herbs.
The Nook, meanwhile, is a special and spacious hideaway filled with home-made elements and curated furnishings from around the world. Perfect for all-weather stays, there’s an Aga and wood-burner for the winter – an warming atmosphere for playing the provided guitar on cosy evenings in – and a beautiful garden to enjoy during summer. There’s even a wood-burning hot tub for good measure!
Whichever haven you choose, you’ll find it equipped with plenty of cooking facilities, with Emily and Malik even providing a few of their favourite recipes for you to try! There’s also hot and cold running water, and a flushing indoor toilet that means there’ll be no midnight dashes to a freezing facilities block.
