Japanese Tea Retreat is privately secluded in the hidden gem Kentish village of South Green, just five miles from Sittingbourne, in a landscaped garden with soothing valley views.

Perfect for reviving weary souls, the ‘tea-house’-inspired sanctuary boasts timber and bamboo-clad walls, floor-level seating, and an open Irori fire (a traditional Japanese sunken hearth) for a welcoming and peaceful atmosphere.

Facilities include a fully-equipped kitchen with a sleek coffee machine – there’s a barbecue for sizzling al fresco suppers, too – and an elegant wet room for freshening up after exploring the area’s many walking and cycling trails.

The kingsize bed, furnished with tatami mats and a futon, is primed for lazy lie-ins accompanied by beautiful natural views. When you’re finally ready to rise, carry that first coffee of the day out into the Zen garden, festooned with whispering maple trees and a Buddha meditation bell, to feel perfectly at one with the world.

In the mood for a stargazing soak? The sumptuous Onsen tub (booked separately) is a luxurious treat, located in a separate part of the grounds and surrounded by nature. It’s particularly special following a sensational Japanese dining experience, which can be crafted especially for you by the owner when arranged in advance.
