Ilmatar Airplane Lodge was creatively converted from a decommissioned SAAB 340B passenger jet, now forming part of a lavish holiday complex for up to eight guests.

First-class accommodation awaits in the midst of Finnish Lakeland, surrounded by pristine countryside and with everything you could possibly need gainfully provided. Sleep onboard in the double Captain’s Suite, housed in the jet’s roomy cockpit (complete with steering gear to delight budding pilots!), or in the cabin’s comfy convertible sofa bed.

Further scenic sleeping spaces are available in the Air Traffic Control Tower and Skyline Granary Room: private, purpose-built havens that add comfort and convenience to your break. Meanwhile, generous facilities include a well-equipped kitchen for in-flight catering, and a movie-lounge with a projector and sound system.

You’ll also have not one but two saunas to unwind in (this is Finland, after all!): a traditional wood-burning sauna in the Air Traffic Control Tower, and a unique version built right into the plane’s fuselage.

What else? The al fresco hot tub is perfect for stargazing… especially when surrounded snow that glistens among soft-lit fairy lights. So much so, that even though you’re in prime position to explore, you may choose to stay grounded at Ilmatar Airplane Lodge all holiday long.
