Shacks is a holiday concept born of expert craftsmanship and an enduring love for the Great Outdoors… yet without sacrificing any well-deserved comfort or convenience in the process.

As such, you’ll find Hydra deliciously hidden away from life’s daily hustle and bustle. This sustainably handcrafted, off-grid Shack is beautifully nestled among unspoilt Welsh nature, elevated over the town of Llangollen for spectacular Dee Valley views.

Ideal for a romantic couple – perhaps with their best four-legged friends in tow – Hydra is furnished with everything you could possibly need, including a handy kitchen and a sumptuous kingsize bed flanked by huge, scenery-showcasing windows. Lazy lie-ins over fresh-ground coffee are practically mandatory here!

What else? There’s a ready supply of books and boardgames to keep you entertained as night falls, together with a warming woodburner if the weather turns chilly. You’ll also have a piping hot shower to freshen up in, with eco-friendly toiletries and luxury towels provided – perfect after a long, energising nature-hike. Also recently installed and ready for guests to enjoy is a sumptuous outdoor bathtub that’s made for soaking under the stars.

If you’re in the mood for an extra treat, you can arrange a private session in the nearby Wild Sauna, which is available to book separately at an exclusive guest discount. Blissfully remote, the wood-fired sauna is a short drive away from Hydra, and offers a deep sensory experience in the untamed midst of nature. Fluffy towels and robes are supplied, and there’s even a porch for smaller dogs to laze on as you bask in the sauna’s natural heat (there are lead-securing hoops for larger dogs if they’re comfortable, too). Following your session, you can brave the cold-water, open-air shower for an invigorating boost that’s quite unlike any other!

You could also head back into civilisation awhile, with a visit to charming Llangollen. Here you can weave in and out of independent shops and bustling cafés, or pack a picnic and unwind in the scenic Riverside Park. There’s plenty of opportunity to stock up on fresh local produce to devour back at Hydra, too.

If you’re in the mood for a slap-up meal you didn’t have to cook, however, there are plenty of pubs and restaurants to try. The Cornmill serves hearty pub grub with a side order of captivating river views, or wet your whistle at Gales, the oldest wine bar in Wales.

What the guests of Hydra say

“My stay was perfect! The shack was very well designed and thought out. If you are looking to get away from the busy 9-5 and reconnect to nature through camping but in a more luxurious way then I highly recommend”

“Me and my partner had a lovely stay in the Hydra cabin, the wood burning fire made it extra cosy. We went over New Year and it was the perfect escape away from the city. It was lovely inside and everything was to a good clean standard. Would recommend!”

“We loved our stay at Hydra! A beautiful cabin in a picturesque area of North Wales. A luxury take on stripped back to basics living, which was perfect for us to unwind, connect with one another and enjoy nature in all its glory. The little lambs as neighbours were also a welcomed surprise! Thank you to the team at Shacks!”
