Located on an authentic and refreshing Dutch farm, in the rural north of the Netherlands yet just twenty minutes from the stunning city of Groningen, Hayema Heerd Straw Hotel is a bucket-list stay just begging to be experienced.

After all, who could resist the nostalgic fairytale temptation of sleeping on straw (which just for the record is far more comfortable than you might first imagine!) under a huge and characterful sky, surrounded by some of the most beautiful landscapes the Netherlands has to offer?

Choose your innovative accommodation from a straw igloo, a straw castle and a straw hayloft. Each option comes complete with electricity, toasty heating and endless rural views, not to mention some of the friendliest service you’ll experience.  And that’s just for starters.

Your luxurious beds are made from a thick, cosy layer of straw, on top of which is a mattress and a downy quilt, immaculate linens and dream-soft pillows. Indeed, the straw beds found here are so popular, that it’s not unheard of for eager guests to ask how to construct one themselves at home!

The Straw Igloos are, as you might imagine, redolent of circular Inuit ice-homes, simply made from bales of straw. A glass dome in the ceiling allows you to drift off to sleep among the stars, waking to watch the birds soaring overhead. Ideal for families, the straw igloos are set close to the on-site playground and trampoline, with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities close by.

Make like royalty in the Straw Castle, a spacious barn suitable for up to six people.  Here you’ll discover enchanted regal draperies, grand chandeliers and castle chairs, with soft cowskin rugs underfoot and beds that will make you feel like a genuine royal. You’ll find private facilities here too (well, this is a regal dwelling after all!) that include a piping hot shower.

Group breaks are made extra-special in the rustic hayloft! Overhead are authentic trusses and beams, you’ll enjoy private facilities, and with up to sixteen people accommodated in three double beds and eight bedsteads, you’ll find the humble sleepover has just taken on a new level of fun and uniqueness.
