Ideal for romantic couple’s escapes and adventure-packed family getaways alike, Graig Wen (‘white rock’ in English) occupies a vast, scenic, and blissfully private setting in Snowdonia National Park.
Surrounded by windswept woodland-and-mountain walks, dog-friendly beaches, and charming pubs and cafés, there’s plenty to see and do in every direction.
Friendly owners John and Sarah live on their beloved site, and much of the glamping accommodation they offer has been lovingly handcrafted, for a stay that’s full of comfort. You can even order freshly baked croissants for breakfast, or indulge in local craft beer by evening campfire, for a relaxing way to end an energetic day of exploring!
There’s a range of fun-filled glamping experiences to choose from at Graig Wen, depending both on your preferences, and the time of year, and two have even been awarded a Visit Wales Gold Award for 2022!
Glamping in the Glade, available from March to October, consists of three cosily furnished yurts (2-5 guests) and a handcrafted shepherd’s hut (up to 4 guests), all beautifully secluded in a ‘secret’ silver birch glade away from the main site, some with private washing facilities.
Two of the yurts were handcrafted from the site’s own woodland, while the third yurt, Tommy, is a laid-back, dapper space named after Tommy Nutter, the locally born tailor who dressed icons including David Bowie and The Beatles.
Ideal for summertime, the Wild Glamping accommodation is open from May-September, and is peacefully secluded in the ancient woodland and meadows. Consisting of Idris the yurt, named after the nearby iconic mountain Cader Idris (up to 4 guests) and a relaxing bell tent (2-4 guests), these are perfect nature-retreats for couples or families with adventurous spirits.

More information
A little less secluded are Empress and Small Duchess, two charming quarry wagons available from March to January. Locally and sustainably crafted from Douglas fir, you’ll find both on the shared touring area of the camping site, a former Victorian slate quarry yard.
Both Empress and Small Duchess are traditional names for slate-sizes used by the quarrymen… and since Empress slates are the largest, so is Empress the wagon! She sleeps up to 4 guests, with extra luxury from an en-suite shower room and flushing loo. Small Duchess sleeps 3, with soothing views towards the estuary and mountains.
There’s a small camp shop on site for you to stock up on essentials and treats, including honey from the next-door neighbours, and local ice-cream. John and Sarah will also provide you with a list of great places to eat out in the local area along with details of walks from the door and off the beaten track places not to miss.
Things to note
Arrive on Friday for a 3-night minimum stay, or Monday for a 4-night minimum stay (2- night stays can be arranged in selected accommodation outside of peak season.) Please note that Wild Camping accommodation is not particularly suited to small children, more teenagers with a sense of adventure!
