Gooderham’s Carriage, set in a beautiful rural location and looking out to the National Trust-maintained Bodiam Castle, is a suitably grand, fresh air-filled setting for you to spoil the love of your life with a romantic break. Better still, you can bring the dog along, too!

This former showman’s carriage has been lovingly restored and refurbished to provide quirky, cosy accommodation full of care, comfort and attention to detail… meaning the views inside will be just as amazing as those you’ll see outside.

Exquisitely etched mirrors, windows looking out to breathtaking rural views, hand-painted features and solid oak walls will greet you as you step inside the vintage-decorated carriage, through authentic doors that open into a cosy lounge area, doubling as a cheerful sun room.

Enjoy a welcome basket packed with local treats, then snuggle around the feature fireplace with its warming woodburner effect fire as you catch up on life with your loved one… with no WiFi to distract you from each-other’s company.

The boutique kitchen area contains everything you need to prepare plenty of low-lit suppers, with an oven, hob, fridge, and even a microwave, while a charming window allows plenty of lovely morning light to flood inside as you prepare breakfast… what a way to greet the day!

Wander to the other end of the carriage, where through a sliding door you’ll discover a double bedroom dressed for soundless nights’ sleep and lazy countryside lie-ins. Featuring elegant painted furniture and fresh, decorative bed linen, you’ll also find plenty of storage for all that walking gear you’re bound to be bringing with you!

A spaciously glamorous ‘Moulin Rouge’-styled shower room is the perfect place to freshen up after a long day exploring the area, while outside you’ll find a stunning covered veranda, complete with bench, comfy chairs and an outside dining table. Fire up the barbecue and gaze out over opulent orchards as you enjoy a sizzling supper, and later on, why not pour a few glasses of wine and relax as the first stars appear in the clear night sky?

By day, enjoy soaking up the countryside atmosphere with a stroll around the local area. The welcoming on-site café, The Hub, is the ideal place to grab lunch if you don’t feel like cooking yourself (and why would you, when you’re on a romantic break away from daily life?). A vintage picnic set has been thoughtfully provided if you feel like packing up lunch and heading slightly further afield!

Keen walkers (and dogs) will find themselves in heaven, with view-filled routes in every direction – not to mention a few friendly local pubs dotted handily along the way!

A visit to Bodiam Castle is a perfect way for history buffs and lovers of natural beauty to while away a day, and you’ll also discover plenty of picturesque gardens to visit in the local area. To savour even more of the unspoilt country views, why not take a trip on the Kent and East Sussex railway for a vintage, steam-filled trip through endlessly green pastures?
