A contemporary, community-focused arts hub that buzzes with creative energy and warmth, East Quay is based in the ancient Somerset coastal town of Watchet.

Here you’ll discover free-entry galleries and artist studios to explore, an on-site restaurant, and a regular, diverse programme of events and workshops.

Oh – and not forgetting five breath-taking, self-contained pods, each with its own striking design and intriguing story, and each boasting the most mesmerising views across the channel to Wales, or out to the Quantocks and Exmoor.

Which new world will you choose to enter? Ideal for a couple, the first-floor Living Museum pod is furnished with an eye-catching, eclectic melange of bespoke vintage and ‘found’ items that are ever-changing… since guests are invited to swap an item with one they’ve discovered during their stay!

Boasting its own private balcony, you can savour a tipple as the sun sinks over the glistening harbour… pure romantic bliss.

Stories and Imagination sleeps up to six guests (two double beds and extra camp beds available), so is perfect for families – especially ones with curious minds. Along with bespoke lighting and cosy furnishings, you’ll find each wall beautifully etched with drawings that depict Watchet’s story-filled past (including the legend of the Gurt Wurm, aka West Somerset’s famed local dragon!)

Featuring a mezzanine bathtub elevated at East Quay’s highest point, the split-level Romantic Industrial is all about the views. Styled in homage to Watchet’s industrial past, there’s also a sense of relaxing on board a glamorous 1930’s ocean liner.

More information

In the mood for a little creative interaction? Sleeping up to four guests (one double bed and camp beds available), the second-floor Playful Architecture pod boasts walls lined with semaphore code to crack, and a huge cargo net over the living space to play, relax – or even sleep! – on.

Last but by no means least, Immersive Art is raised on stilts and styled by a different artist-in-residence each year. Sleeping two comfort-loving guests, the pod’s cosy mezzanine nook faces Watchet’s nostalgic steam railway line and is a wonderful place to relax.

Once you’ve settled into your chosen pod, you’re free to traverse the walkways, explore the galleries, and chat with the artists about their latest projects. And of course grabbing coffee and cake, or even a full evening meal at East Quay Kitchen is a must!

Watch out for regular supper clubs, and with a fully-licensed bar you can always enjoy a well-deserved tipple, too. Choose a courtyard table to feel part of East Quay’s vibrant central space, where you can watch regular performances or chat with new friends.

Watchet itself is filled with wonders, from museums and vintage shops to unique historic sites and picturesque coastal walks… and with not one but two beaches to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice of places to explore the coastline.
