If you were to close your eyes and imagine the perfect countryside idyll, it’s likely you’ll picture Dittisham Hideaway.
Overlooking a sun-dappled woodland valley just a mile from the shimmering River Dart, the enchanting, wildlife-steeped site is an ideal base from which to get lost in beautiful Devonshire countryside.
If you’ve got your family in tow, the striking, self-contained Treehouses – each one individually named after the local wildlife – each sleep up to two adults and three children (Pheasant and Owl also welcome your four-legged friend).
Soothing wooden finishing, toasty underfloor heating, and butter-soft fabrics all await you inside, along with a wood-burning stove for snuggly evenings in, a treat-stuffed welcome hamper, and not one but two en-suite bathrooms with power showers.
Outside there’s a traditional wood-fired cedar hot tub to help you greet the sunset in style, with a hammock for lazy afternoon lounging, and a selection of outdoor games to keep the kids – big kids included! – busy.
Travelling as a couple? The 1956 classic American Airstream 1234 is an iconic, gleaming retreat that’s privately secluded in a woodland corner. Here you can feast your eyes on spectacular views of Dartmoor’s rolling hills, with birdsong and a gently running stream as your romantic soundtrack.
Fire up the barbecue for sizzling sunset suppers, before taking a stargazing dip in the Japanese oak wood-fired spa bath… what bliss! When it’s finally time to turn in, you’ll find the Airstream kitted out in retro style, with plenty of mod-cons, and gorgeous Egyptian cotton bed linen to snuggle into.
