Cueva Aventura is the brainchild of Christian and Laurence (or Kiki and Lolo to their friends!), a pair of intrepid adventurers and off-roading enthusiasts. They fell in love with cave-dwelling whilst travelling the world in their converted 4×4, finally putting down roots in the ancient Andalusian village of Benamaurel.
Why Benamaurel? Elevated in the mountains, between the river Guardal and the gorge, the rugged landscapes are breathtaking and cave-dwelling is typical. Indeed, Benamaurel is considered to be the original birthplace of the cave-home, back in the 12th century.
Cueva Aventura comprises three separate cave-homes, built by Christian and Laurence themselves. Along with private kitchen and bathroom facilities, each boasts its own individual style and charm, and is suitable for couples, families and friends.
Cueva Francesca sleeps up to three guests, either in a kingsize bed and a single or three singles, and features an accessible bathroom for guests with limited mobility. The interiors are styled in wood, stone, and natural earth tones, for an authentic yet luxurious atmosphere.
Cueva Lucia is perfect for small families, sleeping up to five guests in two bedrooms. Here, the walls are adorned with ornamental Azulejos tiles and the kitchen is equipped with all the mod-cons you could possibly need, including a dishwasher.
The largest and most modern-styled dwelling, Cueva Emilia sleeps up to seven guests in three bedrooms, with flexible configurations to suit different group dynamics.
Your chosen cave is built to a bioclimatic design that affords the ideal temperature, all year round – though you’ll have a wood-burning stove for cosy evenings spent in front of the Netflix-equipped TV. On sunny afternoons, your private patio is the perfect sun-spot… that is, when you’re not relaxing around the palm-fringed saltwater pool!

More information
What else? There’s a pétanque court for competitive types, shaded in the midst of the vineyard and surrounded by birdsong. Inspired by their own travels, Christian and Laurence have also created a communal ‘base camp’: a barbecue area with a long table for lively chats with new friends. There’s a small lounge, too, along with showers, sinks, and toilets. Oh, and not forgetting secure garage space for quad bikes and motorcycles!
Use your beloved vehicle to explore the mountains, or embark on a guided excursion to the nearby Gorafe desert. There are plenty of walks begging to be taken close by, too, including the Castril river footbridge, or go skiing in the Sierra Nevada.
If shopping and sightseeing are more your thing, there are bustling markets to visit every day, or visit the iconic, insanely popular Alhambra (advance booking highly recommended).
However you choose to spend your time at Cueva Aventura, two things are for certain: you’ll be instantly captivated, and you’ll never be bored!
Things to note
Cueva Francesca is suitable for guests with limited mobility. A car or other vehicle is recommended for exploring the local area. Equipment for babies (a bath, highchair, stroller and travel cot) can be provided on request.
