Craigmaddie Muir Roundhouse

A romantic Scottish hillside eco-retreat with a floor-to-ceiling glass front and hot tub, nestled in magical silver birch woodland.
  • Sleeps: 2
  • Bedroom: 1
  • Bathroom: 1
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights

Lovingly handcrafted, and privately nestled on a vast, 400-acre farm that’s just ten miles from Glasgow’s bustling city centre, Craigmaddie Muir Roundhouse is the ultimate romantic hideaway.

Gently elevated over stunning silver birch woodland, you can marvel at those enchanting, wildlife-steeped views whatever the weather, with the Roundhouse’s 180° floor-to-ceiling glass front that also allows daylight to flood cheerfully inside.

Bespoke constructed from Scots larch, and lined with pale spruce, the curved retreat blends beautifully into the rural surroundings. Meanwhile, eco-friendly elements including solar panels and a living roof help to ensure minimal impact.

Inside, the domed ceiling soars above you, providing a beautiful and relaxed space, with hand-crafted accessories, sumptuous furnishings, and a glowing wood-burning stove set against the window.

The absence of a TV means you can chat with your loved one in uninterrupted comfort, with those awe-inspiring, ever-changing views for company – what bliss! Just pop open the complimentary Prosecco, nicely chilled for your arrival, and you’re all set.

Even the ‘floating’ kitchenette comes equipped with gorgeous views, and you’ll find it stocked with everything you need to rustle up hearty breakfasts and romantic suppers, including a gas oven, hob, and integrated fridge.

You’ll find your downy, bespoke crafted kingsize bed at the rear, dressed in fresh, luxurious linen that all but guarantees not only a dreamy night’s sleep, but a lazy lie-in the next morning!

More information

Oh, and if you thought eco-living meant compromising on certain facilities, think again. The separate, elegant shower room features a double shower with a rain head mixer, and a basin with a waterfall tap… while the loo features an incredible view!

On sunny days, it’ll be hard to tear yourselves away from the wooden deck, getting lost between the pages of a good book. Later on, why not fire up the gas barbecue to greet the sunset with a sizzling supper, then switch on the spotlights and take a stargazing dip in the wood-burning hot tub?

Tearing yourselves away to explore the local area will be devilishly difficult, but if you manage it, you’ll find plenty to whet your appetites – including farm estate walks, and a guided tour of Glengoyne Distillery, which is often described as Scotland’s most beautiful!

You could take a cruise on the immense sparkling waters at Loch Lomond National Park, or visit the iconic Falkirk Wheel… the world’s first and only rotating boat lift.

Meanwhile, Mugdock Country Park, just a mile away, offers plenty of fresh-air activity, and there is a wide selection of restaurants to choose from nearby, just in case you don’t feel like cooking (and why should you?)
