Just like a well-kept secret, you’ll find historic, family-run Lochend Chalets hidden away in an idyllic corner of The Lake of Menteith in The Trossachs, a mere hour from Glasgow.

Lochend boasts a diverse selection of self-catering chalets, log cabins and lodges with magnificent views across the shimmering lake to Ben Lomond, in a tranquil, wildlife-steeped escape to make you forget all about life’s everyday stresses.

Sleeping up to six guests in three en-suite bedrooms, Cormorant is a timber, glass and steel-crafted Lochend lodge that represents a true labour of love. Fans of modernist architecture, family-owners Topher, Victoria and Chris teamed up with an architect in a ‘Grand Designs’-style mission: to transform an old estate building into a jaw-droppingly unique retreat, with spectacular views inside and out.

Cormorant occupies a place all of its own on the edge of the estate, facing the Lake of Menteith and the Goodie Burn to the other side. Enormous downstairs windows and a cantilevered mezzanine viewing lounge offer dreamy views over the water all the way to Loch Lomond. There’s also a blissfully private outdoor space… which comes complete with a hot tub, fire-pit, and barbecue.

The interior is a beautiful blend of design-led luxury with creative attention to detail. Highlights include Timorous Beasties wallpaper that pays homage to the lake’s migrating eels, and Chris’s expertly hand-sculpted Lochend wood-pieces that range from clocks to egg-cups. There’s also an ornate chess set – its board crafted from Lochend elm by Chris’s son, Cooper – to help you while away a few idle hours.

The sumptuous upstairs bedroom includes a relaxing steam-and-shower en-suite with a large bath and overhead skylight for stargazing. Hansgrohe showers and gleaming Italian tiles are standard bathroom features.

There are also plenty of other sleek, high-end conveniences that make holiday life a breeze. The German-engineered kitchen (with cleverly-positioned mirrors to help you keep an eye on those views!) is equipped with a Nespresso machine and a Quooker boiling water tap.

“From the moment we booked until the end of our stay, the communication and service were nothing short of exceptional. Every detail was handled seamlessly, leaving us completely at ease throughout our visit. The chalet itself exceeded all expectations—spotlessly clean, beautifully warm, and wonderfully welcoming. It truly felt like a home away from home. We couldn’t fault a single aspect of our experience and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a serenely quiet getaway.””

“Excellent stay experience at lochend chalets! The location is amazing. The cabins are very well maintained. It was perfect for our stay. Dining at the Nick Nairns’ restaurant on site was the cherry on cake!”

“We went in October half term. Absolutely beautiful location, extremely peaceful and tranquil. Stunning views of the lake and surrounding landscape resplendent in autumn colour. We stayed in the new Cormorant lodge which was amazing. It’s huge, modern and has everything you need – felt really luxurious. We loved feeding the ducks, and went out on the lake a couple of times in the row boat and paddle-boarding. The owners were really lovely. Fantastic on site restaurant Nicks had excellent food and was moments away from the accommodation. Would love to come back. Thank you!”
