If you like your holidays with a slice of adventure, a helping of luxury and double portions of sunshine, you'll fall in love with Casa Fontelheira - luxurious glamping in fabulous Northern Portugal.
  • Sleeps: 5 or 6 per tent
  • Bedrooms: 2 or 3 per tent
  • Bathrooms: 1 per tent
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights

Casa Fontelheira is an utterly relaxing, wonderfully luxurious glamping retreat, offering eight sensational safari tents for groups of five and six guests. Surrounded by exotic gardens and breath-taking panoramas, you’ll quickly feel at one with nature and at one with yourself in this superbly tranquil holiday spot.

If you’ve never slept in a safari tent before, you’re in for a real treat. Casa Fontelheira’s safari tents all come with every creature comfort in tow, including hot water, electricity, integrated kitchens and bathrooms, and luxurious linens throughout. In fact, with their interior wood panelling, each feels more like a cosy cabin retreat! Even better, all are thoughtfully placed for ultimate privacy – a canvas-topped haven from the rest of the world.

Da Crianca, Da Vista and Da Oliviera each sleep six guests apiece – perfect for a family or group of friends. Towards the rear of your safari tent, you’ll find a wonderfully rustic and romantic four-poster bed (complete with a fairy-tale canopy), and a cute double box bed hideaway for two further guests. You’ll discover twin beds in the adjacent bedroom too – ideal for kids of all ages. In the main living area, you’ll find a large dining table for six, but in this beautiful climate, you may be more inclined to enjoy your meals on your private patio. Surely everything tastes better with a panoramic view attached!

For slightly smaller groups, Bom Jardin, Da Verde, Da Floresta, Do Castanho and Da Palmeira each accommodate five guests. Again, you’ll be treated to one of those sensational four-poster canopy beds, but will also find a clever bunk bed sleeping three – with a double bed on the bottom and a single bed overhead. Each tent has a cosy indoor dining area, as well as a large veranda with a picnic table. All safari tents enjoy a splendid garden and lots of sunshine, aside from Da Palmeira, which benefits from the cooling shade of the beautiful trees that surround it.

Whichever size tent you choose, you can guarantee the same high-quality fixtures and fittings throughout. Each one boasts a spacious bathroom with a large, luxurious shower, a toilet and a double wash basin – a far cry from draughty toilet blocks you might associate with normal camping. Your bespoke kitchen wouldn’t be out of place in a country cottage, with its four-ring gas cooker, fitted sink, fridge, coffee maker, and all the utensils, crockery, cutlery and glassware you could possibly need. And with a private garden to enjoy too, you’ll soon feel quite at home in this piece of Portuguese paradise.

Casa Fontelheira has a wide range of further facilities to make your holiday truly unforgettable. Unwind beside the beautiful heated swimming pool, where luxurious loungers invite you to relax with a favourite read or a cocktail in hand. Each afternoon, enjoy a taste of Portugal with petiscos served daily by the pool and on the terrace (that’s Portuguese tapas, if you’re wondering). And speaking of food, there’s a different menu to enjoy each day at Casa Fontelheira, served in the pretty courtyard or the atmospheric adega. Oh, and did we mention the breakfast picnic basket, complete with freshly baked rolls, brought to your door each morning? Delicious.

If you need a further nudge to truly unwind at Casa Fontelheira, indulge in a massage or facial from the visiting beauty therapist, or take part in a yoga class for ultimate zen. Meanwhile, the kids will be kept busy for hours with a host of organised games – including table tennis, water sports, badminton and volleyball tournaments. They can unleash their inner Michel Roux on Pizza Making Night or their inner Einstein on Science Night, too!
